Has anyone done any cycling around Fuerteventura?
I'm heading there soon and was wondering if it's worth hiring a road bike for a few days?
Never cycled on the other side of the road (at least not intentionally) and have no idea what Fuerteventura and it's roads/climbs are like to cycle round?

I did a few years back. Roads are excellent with little traffic. Not much by way of climbs but theres a headwind pretty much everywhere you go.

Stayed in Corralejo a few years ago and didn't come across any places that hired decent road bikes.

Looking into going there over xmas so if things have changed and anybody does know a decent bike hire place there would appreciate a shout here.

I stayed in the Hotel Atlantis in Corralejo 2 years ago and they had a bike shop on the grounds. I didn't rent any bikes from them, but they seem to have Specialized road bikes for rental.

From what I remember of the place the roads are super smooth and there is a large mountain in the middle of the island.

Cycled in Lanzarote in July which is more or less the same..

    Roads: excellent.

No prob cycling on other side of road just be careful at roundabouts.

It is extremely breezy ALL THE TIME. And it's very hot.

Have been in contact with "Easy riders" bike hire in Corralejo. They have a good stock of Specialized road bikes for hire. €71 for 5 days or €91 for 7 days.

l really wanna give it a go while I'm out there but must now talk "nicely" to "herself".... as it's a family holiday

Was there in May stayed in Calete de Fueste brought my own bike only really one mountain Betancuria . Undulating roads nice surface motorist give you plenty of room. Be prepared for plenty of wind it is a kite flying mecca and wind surfing . Some days there was no escape from it. I stayed in the Los Geranios hotel there was a bike shop there run by an English Guy he was really sound had a problem with the bike that he sorted for me . He hires mountain and road bikes and does escorted tours both road and mountain biking . But he gave me some great loops to do and was very heplful . There is a company that rents Giant TCR and another one that rents planetx pro carbon just google bike hire in fuerteventura .

it's also a hell of a barren and windy island! I don't know if I'd really fancy a lot of road cycling there, but the roads are good and smooth. definitely people go mountain biking on the north shore track from correlejo down to cotillo. that's worth doing, coast is nice and cotillo is a nice harbour village and has a great beach to the south. and people also mountain bike up the rocky hills around there that look like a lunar landscape.

I go to Fuerte a good bit and cycle there everytime I go. If staying near Caleta de Fuste , las Playitas , Costa Calma or Morrojable contact Mark at Fuerteventurabikehire.com . He's actually from Wales !! a keen cyclist and an author to boot . He has Giant TCR carbon bikes and will bring the bike to you and collect it as well. In July he gave me a Team Rabbobank TCR .All you need are your shoes and pedals really. It is usually 100 euro for 7 days but if he's not busy he will allow you to keep it for longer at no extra cost . It can be windy at times , nearly always northeast, get out early and be home for midday or 1pm. Three nice climbs , Wicklow Gap gradient , I managed to do 2800m one day. Quiet roads, smooth surface and sunny 20 to 24 deg at xmas. If anyone wants more info, advice or a cheap place to stay send me a PM.

That's exactly what I had in mind. It's a family holiday 1st and formost, so can't spend too long out and about. I'm just wary of cycling in a new country on tother side of road, on me own. But seems like all of the above say roads are excellent, traffic light and respectful and scenery stunning.
So will try to head out for an hour or 2 early spin am, then back to throw myself in the pool, nurture a pizza and sip Rioja :D
