Sleep/Night Terrors & Sweating

I'm looking to see if anyone else has experienced these symptoms.

For a numbers of years I suffer from sleep/night terrors and more recently sweating at night. It doesn't happen every night but during the past year it's getting more frequent. I "awake" from my sleep roughly in the first couple of hours I go to sleep. I think I see something in the room, usually spiders. I shout loudly and panic. I sometimes see whatever it is vividly other times I don't remember. I might sometimes sit up in the bed, eyes open and talk to my wife and get agitated when she doesn't understand what I'm talking about. I tend to sweat in the bed when this happens, the room isn't warm and I only have a duvet over me. I don't feel warm.

I spoke to a sleep specialist informally about it and they said it may be stress related. I have a phobia of spiders, they said there may be a connection with the phobia and maybe deal with the phobia.

I'm going to go to my GP soon and see if he can help me.

Hi OP. I have exactly the same symptoms. I've also been to see the doctor and it was suggested I get help to deal with my spider phobia. It's worse during the times of the year when spiders are more active but it helps me when I take preventative measures. I make sure the outside of the house and windows are free from cobwebs (my dad and boyfriend help with this!), spray around doors and windows on the inside with spider/insect repellent, use citrus oil in the water when mopping the floors and sprinkle some inside the place.

I'm more relaxed going to bed if I know that's been done recently - but have had some terrible nights sleep this year. Like you I get agitated and panicky - and sweat - when it happens. Then I'm really tired during the day.

Have a chat with your GP and see what he says. Hope it gets better for you.

    Hi, thanks for replying :)

I must get myself some spider repellent. I haven't had any episodes lately, thank God! When I'm at my GP next time I'll have a talk with him and see what he says.

I know the repellent etc isn't a sleep tip as such - but I find I'm more relaxed going to bed if I know I've taken appropriate steps. I've had some nights this summer where I've been waking up to find myself staring at the walls and curtains in horror!

I know exactly how you feel. It's very frustrating as I know it's happening and I know that what I see isn't real, it takes a few seconds to snap out of my sleepy state.
I used to live in an apartment until last November and now I'm in a house and there's more spiders here. I think the episodes have increased since then but can't be certain. The repellent will put my mind at ease I think :)
