When I was a kid I loved watching the great heavyweights, but as the division has faded so has my love of boxing.

What happened to the heavyweights ?

According to many the 80s HWs were sh1t. Usually claimed when trying to slate Tyson's reign. The 80s HWs were excellent. The first real big and strong and skilled men. All above 220 lbs and 6 feet 3 upwards. The 90s HWs were also excellent.

The 1980's heavyweights were the ones described by scribes as the 'cocaine generation' or something along those lines (pun intended).

The majority of the top American heavies had problems with the powder (Tony Tubbs, Pinklon Thomas, Tony Tucker, etc.) and never lived up to their potential. I didn't think they were great back then and I don't now. The 90's heavies were definitely better.
