Hello have a 1983 Colnago Super Frame & Fork set here for sale.

In extremely good condition and is a proper collectors item if any of yee are into it. Only reason for sale is she's too big for me. Will turn into wall art if it does not sell.

    Size: 59st/58tt
    Colour: PR82 Saronni Red
    Tubing: Columbus SL
    Dropouts: Colnago
    Year: 1983

Boards.ie will not let me post pictures or links so if there's real interest I can send pics.

550 euro for frame & forks. Firm.
(go to the sold listings on ebay and just try and find one of these frames for under 700 in this conditon)

would be willing to trade for a frame but would have to be a serious frame.
e.g Pinarello, Ciocc, Moser, Colnago, Coppi, Magnus. try me...
also on the lookout for C-record parts if anyone has got some for sale.

@Eamonator - Yes it is very similar only difference being that's a mexico & mines a super
The only difference being the Super has crimped top tubes, down tubes & rear stays(bottom of the rear trinagle) and the mexicos do not. Had a lengthy conversation with Saarf about this, he is one of the top men in europe that can speak english when it comes to Colnagos.

Rite I'l try my best to get a link or picture up.

That's her built up as I bought her. Was a great experience cycling this bike and a feckin gorgeous bike to cycle, Colnago Geometry is excellent. Only problem was the top tube is too big for me and I had to stretch to get down in the drops which is where I do most of my cycling. Could of shortened the stem but Colnago's Geometry are design for a longer stem so better off someone big enough to handle her than me not using her properly.

i thought the top tubes on the supers were the same length regardless of size, and the size difference came from the seat tube and the head tube length. I may be wrong however. I can measure against mine if you like.

Your top tube looks different to mine - is it crimped?
Have you any pictures of the bottom of the bottom bracket shell and the cable routing guides? Also, is there a number stamped on one of the rear drop outs? Colnago numbers were fairly random, but it can give you some info on some of the supers if it is present afaik.

Yours is a lovely bike - how do you find the delta brakes?

To my knowledge in the 80's Colnago made such an array of frame sets that even the most ardent Colnago fan struggles to identify them...
The super stood below the Mexico in the hierarchy and was mostly plain round tubing...
Your bike looks like a nuovo Mexico...basically an improved Mexico ...
Slightly later models had internal cabling on top tube
The super never had a stamped chain stay

    Lovely bike
    Sarroni colouring SOOOOOOOOO desireable

i would have also guessed the nuovo mexico.....

Weren't some of the mexicos made with really fancy columbus tubing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27 Patfatenough

    @Inquitus thanks.
That's the first time I've ever heard that. I dunno, I had a quick look through ebay at frames and their top tubes are all over the shop.

Ye mine is crimped, 1983 was the first year crimping stared happening on anything other than the rear stays. Ye my top tube is crimped, so is the down tube. I'l post a closer picture just after this. Nope no pictures of bottom bracket, there's no cable routing guides.

Nope no serial numbers, I checked the whole frame, tis def a Colnago do.

I love the Delta's, find them great but They really need to be set up perfectly. Made BITS of my veloflex through skidding as I was not used to them but when I got used to them I found them to be lovely brakes and very responsive. There feckin gorgeous aswell.

Wasn't overly fancy and was quiet heavy...but very very comfy

The master had the gilco star tubing...and when it was produced the tubes on the Mexico began to be crimped...

The OP,s bike is old school proper Italiano ...

Would love it in a 54!!!

Believe me lads this is Super, I was fully assured it was a Mexico too but I talked about it to Saarf and he showed me that it's a super. I was adamant it was a Nuovo Mexico but he was right. check out saarf.net if ye wanna see what he's about, really nice guy, 5/5 sound fella.

Basically the Merckx Colnago Mexicos (1974-1979) had round superlight main tubes, Sarroni Nuovo Mexicos (1980-1985) crimped top and down tubes.

    ww.raydobbins.com/misc/Colnago_Catalog/1024/06.jpg

^ that's the Nuovo Mexico with no crimps on the back(looks like there is but there ain't, it's just the reflection of the other un crimped rear stay)

    saarf.net/2012/12/06/colnago-catalog-1982-1983/attachment/071/

^The Rear stays, top tube & downtube are crimped.

(stick http:// in front of both and w for the first one)

    Gorgeous looking bike.

Bought a Tecnos frame last week, otherwise I'd be seriously tempted!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27 Patfatenough

Thanks, the more I talk about and think about it the less I want to sell it.

Nice, can't get much better. There's seems to be a lot of italian steel enthusiasts around, I didn't think there would be much of a following but I suppose I never looked.

Wouldn't mind settin up a group and seein what kinda steel is lyin around the place, seems to be a strong following, good place buy/sell frames/parts etc....

I remember I seeing a documentary on TG4 about Irish cycling around 4 years ago before I got into it and there was some very good races on around the Island and a lot of competition.

Brendan Hennessy organised an Italian Steel day when the giro was over - search in the main forum. There were some lovely bikes there. Couldnt make it myself unfortunately.

    gorgeous bikes.

how long does it take to be able to post links, can't create a group either.

Nice bike Pat - especially the c record groupset. I'm rebuilding my Colnago master at the moment with c record and some of the parts are hard to come by for sensible money.

You probably also need a c record front mech if you want to complete the groupset.

    @letape

Mine is 91-94 Record groupset, last generation Deltas & start of the Ergopower era.(although I have Ergolevers I prefer downtube shifters & uncluttered brake levers which is why I got a pair of brake levers and DT shifers sittin in the wardrobe waitin to see the light of day)

It's all 91-94 apart from the crankset(same as c record), pedals & front hub.

On the lookout for a crankset at the moment but none seem to be coming up in decent condition at a fair price. Not looking forward to forkin over the cash for a decent set of pedals either, not even a single pair on ebay! :I

Same as what I am using. The 1992 front hub, front mech, chainset, bottom bracket, deltas & seatpost were a carryover from the c record group.
