I'm hearing some knocking on what seems the passenger side of my car, more to the back. I was told by my friend it most likely the cv joint. My car is a Fiat Panda and its 2004 model.
    • how much would it cost to buy and replace?
    • could i replace it myself or do i need some one with a knowledge of cars?

Extra: I had the wishbone replaced yesterday by a guy who buys, repairs and sells cars on my street. The new part cost €75 in one shop but he got a new one in another shop for €50 and i gave him €20 for doing the job. was that OK? should i have given home more?

Is it cracking when turning? Fiat cv joints usually hold up well. I'd be looking at drop links and arb bushes first.

To change the cv joint you'll need new boots, metal cv clips, cv grease and copper grease. You'll need a 32mm socket for the hub nut (I always reuse them unless seriously cobbered) and a medium sized circlip to remove the old cv end. They're held on with a semi snap ring, this is where the circlip pliers is used. To put on the metal clips you need a special clamping tool, about €24 from a local factors.

As for the arm they're cheap and dead handy to do so that price seems alright

I'll have to admit that went right over my head as I dont known a thing about cars. Would it cost a lot? The noise I hear is a knockknockknockknock sounds as I'm turning on a roundabout for example.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

Afaik you will usually only hear a bad CV joint when the steering is at or near full lock.
