Hi im thinking of buying a 2008 1.6 tcdi econetic focus from the north for 4,500 euro it has 135,000 miles and is from a private seller . He said it has a full ford service history can anyone help me in letting me know if these are a good car ? do they give trouble ? what should I look out for ? Does something seem funny with the price and am I wasting my time and better of to pay more of a dealer ?

You could buy the car and it may be fine. Or more lightly what will happen it will wreck your head with problems. There is a reason why focus diesels are cheaper than many other diesels. If you google Psa 1.6 hdi engine faults you'll get a nice long list. The engine itself is a Peugeot engine not a ford one. I had a 07 focus with that engine last year and it got that bad I thought to myself life just to short sold it and bought a golf tdi and never looked back I wouldn't even put the focus in the same league as the golf but then that's my opinion and some people do prefer the focus.

My one only had 80k miles too. Tbh if some one left one outside my door for free I genuinely wouldn't drive it.

But look that's just my experience I'm not some ford hater thats trying to turn everyone of them. I recon the best thing you could do is google 1.6 Psa engine and look on a few threads that pop up. There most known problems are turbo failure due to oil starvation, oil sludge issues due to the natural design of the engine, egr failure. I found with mine it was just the constant small things going wrong. But as I said you could buy one and it may be perfect or it could cost you 3k euro in a year. Still though if want to get one I'd aim for something with lower mileage and a proper service history that included oil changes ideally every 15 k km. as missing oil changes or late oil changes really ruin this engine and that could have been a lot of the problems with mine granted that would have been the previous owner fault.

Hope this helps. Genuinely not trying to put you of the car just giving my straight opinion on my experience. There is no such things as a 100% reliable second hand car anyway.
