there's 4696 pages in AH going back to 1999, and if you look back at them, there's posters I haven't seen in years, like two sheds jackson, monty, lexie,eskimo,r3nu4l, whitewashman and so on, what do you think has happened to them? Have they moved on to better things or just gotten too cool for Boards

We all die dude, tis life.

They may simply have gone on to better things and left boards, mods, and keyboard warriors behind.

R3nu4l is still very much around and Whitewashman was doing more than fine last time I heard. NO doubt the same can be said for the other guys and gals

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

They all went down to The George for AH beers in 2003 & never came back

Yes, there have been some Boardsies over the years who sadly passed away far too early in life. :-/

Rozabeez, JIZZLORD (fantastic name :o), Logic1 and others - R.I.P.

There is one person whose posts I really liked; he was a regular poster and then stopped. Then started posting again when he joined a private forum I was a member of... then completely stopped - and that was two and a half years ago. I know he had some awful personal sh-t going on and I'd love to know that he's ok - always liked him, long before I knew about the personal difficulties he was dealing with. I don't feel right saying who (for all I know he could be re-regged - and I really hope so!) but I'm sure he's not the first to disappear suddenly. It's worrying when that happens on a platform like this, because you just do not know...

People move on with things. Some of them could have died, vast majority probably got too busy with jobs, problems, families, some may have emigrated...

Every so often I see someone I recognise from back then.

Boards is huge now. Might just be signal to noise :)

And the Boards Gathering card was quite the good thing when played at the right time...

yeah, it seems that a lot have just moved on with their lives or lurk for a bit and post every now and again. It saddens me to think that most posters today will never understand the wrath of Monty in AH :pac:

Boardsies never die...they just go missing on 4chan.

It's a bit sad sometimes to find a old thread or a particularly long running one and see all the Closed Account's or "Last active 3 years ago". Is Run4DaHills still around? He was a laugh.

I think for most of the very prolific posters, the types that are here all hours of the day and night and are very visible, that boards.ie is a phase.
Eventually they get bored/disillusioned/employment/a girlfriend/a reddit account and they leave these holy lands for pastures greener.

I've a feeling the intense regular boards posting phase is rarely the happiest, healthiest, most socially active phase of anyone's life.

That's not to say the site isn't great and that they don't enrich it though, just that their moving on is inevitable and most likely a happy event. :)

Enjoyed when he made a brief comeback as After Hours mod in the Giblet era. Good times were had.

Ah that's a bit depressing all the same.

I've talked about this before, but I wouldn't think of boards as a 'phase' in my life, but sure how I feel down the line could well change I'm sure. I've posted here for years, on an off, sometimes more on, sometimes more off, and some of my most memorable life events or milestones to date went into some of my posts around here.

I often think if I died (TOUCH WOOD), I'd like for my family/closest friends to discover my boards account because it really is a true reflection of my inner most feelings on some stuff that can be hard to talk about in real life, the anonymity has really afforded me a bit of freedom around here.

Sad to think that it could be some sort of an unhealthy crutch for people whose lives are lacking, I can only speak for myself but it's enriched my life in some odd little ways for sure, as opposed to detracting from it.

Was just about to post that. Paul was a lovely guy.

I know a few other boardsies in real life who've died, none were well known posters.

Some people just get fed up with the site.

I was on another forum site since I was 11. It has a couple of million members. I ended up eventually being made an admin (mod first, obviously).

Last year, I just got fed up with it all, stepped down as admin, and deleted my account.

It had over 50k posts though. I really should get out more.

I could tell you the story. It involves secret meetings, foreign trips and high flying politicans.

Sadly his remains were recovered from the Liffey a few weeks after he first went missing.

No, people are constantly complaining about him. I think he was a very sharp and witty poster (he's still a member of Boards but doesn't post to After Hours any more, which is where he did his "thing"). I can see how the third person thing would grate but I didn't take notice as his posts were so well written.

Oh it's definitely enriched my life too, very much so. I love how when something interesting happens and there's no one in my "real" life who cares enough to talk about it I can come on here and find the issue being enthusiastically thrashed out. I've learned lots on different forums...including that I'm a closet nerd who loves gadgets. No one in my real life really knows that about me. There's several interests I'd have no one to talk to about really if it wasn't for boards.

I wouldn't say it's an unhealthy crutch. I'd be more inclined to think of it as something that fills the gap when life isn't going fantastically, it's there those Saturday nights when you might otherwise be home humming "all by myselffff" etc. I think most people who can give several hours a day to it would probably prefer be hanging out with great friends or going fun places or being loved up on the couch with the love of their lives though. When they disappear I tend to imagine that's what's happened to them...and in my experience of a few of them that's exactly what's happened. :)

To be fair, the presence of pig in both is confusing if you are a few sambos short of a picnic.

Often wonder how would anyone realise if another regular boardsie died. I mean there's a lot of people who don't know other posters in real life, right? That's why the closed account thing is sort of good I think. If I just stopped posting for ever tomorrow it would look like I died or forgot my password (which could easily happen as I don't use the email address any more!). But closing your account sort of alleviates that issue.

Was just about to post that. Paul was a lovely guy.

I only met him two or three times IRL but he was really nice and friendly. He'll always be one of the wittiest and most intelligent posters I ever interacted with on boards.
