While you should have a dog license anyway, that's literally the most ridiculous reason I've heard yet not to microchip.

I hope you never lose your pet

I cannot believe with all the vets in Waterford City not one on the list, the nearest is Dungarvan.

Most vets seem to be all out of free chips. Some are marked as out of stock on the website but I rang about 10 others from the list and none had any left around Kerry. A couple said they only got about 10 free chips. Shame I didn't see this thread earlier.

It's not like it costs an arm and a leg to get done, and its the most worthwhile thing you can do in case your pet ever gets lost. Sick of seeing all these posts on fb "found dog no collar no chip"

alot of vets are doing discounted chipping for this month also. its usually 45 at my local vets and its now 25.

its very important that you also register the microchip. lots of dogs are chipped but the chips are not registered

    Silly question.

Is this like lowjacking your car? So you can put a GPS trace on your dog, should it get lost?

I know of microchipping, but I always thought it was just the pets info stored on it. If its not, why hasn't literally every pet owner done this already?

...and update the details if you move house or even country!! Friend of mine found a lovely little dog and he was chipped, address was in Spain :( They had moved to Ireland, no forwarding address.

The chip has a serial number on it which refers back to a database with your details on it, which is why its important to register the dog to the chip. Its not like GPS at all
