Flight Followers/Operations/Dispatcher?

    I realize the US and Europe go about this in a different way with the US requiring a FAA Dispatcher License for Part 121 scheduled domestic & flag operations; but not necessarily for Part 121 supplemental or cargo operations; or Part 135 charters/cargo/etc. These type of operations basically just require unlicensed flight followers who are overseen by a director of operations. You don't need an FAA Dispatcher License for these flight follower positions legally but many companies require it as part of the hiring process anyway.

    Anyway to cut to the point of my post, what exactly would be the name of the the job that is most similar to a US Dispatcher? Are these jobs hard to find? Do they pay anywhere near a descent salary? Any tips appreciated whether it is about airlines, charters, or cargo.

    <Snip>

    Thanks

    Also is there any system for jump seating or catching a ride similar to the CASS system in Europe?

    - I have a fresh FAA Aircraft Dispatcher License
    - I have a FAA Private Pilot License with around 165 hr including 20 simulated IFR
    - I have completed about 3.5/4 semesters of a bachelor of science in Aviation Administration and should be finished by next year (I can take classes over the internet)
    - Hold dual Irish-US citizenship

    Thanks

    Depending on who you work for in Europe, they may call the job Flight Dispatcher, Flight Ops Dispatcher, Flight Ops etc...

    You have some healthy qualifications so try the likes of Swissport, Air Contractors etc. Jobs like these don't come around too often as they are generally sought after and often promote to the position from within ie. Ramp Handler etc.. I'm not sure who is hiring I know we are not but best of luck with it.

    I'd make a clear distinction between Flight Dispatch and what Swissport call Dispatch

    i would be with Strumms on this, to the best of my knowledge EI and FR recruit these positions from their own staff.

    But you have the qualifications so better chance that most.

    Thanks for the replies. I will watch out for job openings but yea it would be good if possible because I have some terminally sick Irish relatives at the moment and it would be good to not be too far away.
