altering outgoing server settings on laptop every time I change location?

Do I have to alter outgoing SMTP server settings each time I bring my laptop to another location? It seems a bit awkward. How is it not necessary when I go to a premises with "free" wifi or isn't necessary with my iPhone?

It's not always necessary, what application are you using for email? Who's your provider?

My home & office ISP provider is Vodafone and I visit an office that has Eircom wifi . My laptop uses Windows XP with Windows Live.
I don't have a problem with my iPhone which seems to be able to pick up my mail it's just my laptop. Surely if you were visiting different places with diff wifi providers it's not necessary to change settings each time is it?

Outlook supports secondary fallback servers, WLM might do the same.
