From starter set to proper golf club

So I have a starter set ( wilson ultra) in which I've only kept the irons.

They did me good as I've them for the last 3 years.

So the question is would I see a difference if I change to proper set of irons ?

My swing is coming good and get a good distance with them ( 7irons around 140-150 yards)

Inconsistency is what s killing me.

Inconsistancy would suggest its not the clubs at all. If you're hitting the 7 iron about 140 then thats respectable. Its a phrase used here a lot but a few lessons could help you more than buying new clubs. Starter sets will be forgiving, they may not have the quality etc of top of the range irons but they will do fine, I would look to getting a lesson or two and practice to become more consistant, being consistant will bring down your handicap. Perhaps while getting a lesson ask the pro about your irons. IF you do decide to change irons, second hand is the way to go. Look through done deal, adverts, etc and you'll find a decent second hand set.

    Get lessons.
I used a second hand starter set of clubs for about 15 years.

    As per Greebo...

Had Old Ram set I was given for 10+ years...loved them and got the handicap moving in the right direction
