My 11 year old niece was showing me her new phone the other day. Looking at it I was flabbergasted to learn that it only cost 99 euros.

Its 4g, has a quad core processor so its superfast when using it. Big screen, takes an SD card for more memory storage, removable battery etc etc...

I just can't fault it for the price ! Please nobody buy any of that Alcatel rubbish !

    Find it here: http://shop.vodafone.ie/shop/phones/vodafone-smart-4-turbo-pay-as-you-go-black

Not poking fun but the VF Smart 4 Turbo is actually made by the same company that manufactures Alcatel handsets, TCT.
Saying that, I'm after setting one up for a family member, and I'm an (Android) phone snob, but this handset has impressed both myself & the OH. Only real issue is the 2GB flash memory, but an ext SD card will solve most issues
    Overall, a good buy!

Stupid comment, can't compare. And even if you do, an iPhone isn't the winner in quality/value.

You don't even need to port your normal number, you can get your hands on a free SIM from 48, O2 or Meteor online (maybe shops too) and move than number to Vodafone to get the €20 off.

Looks like a good deal. Anyone know the actual specs beyond 'Megapixel camera: yes'? :pac:

O2 SIMs AFAIK have to be ordered online

Meteor SIMs are available in store on the counter for free so you don'e even need to ask

    Tesco SIMs cost €2.50

Bear in mind that Vodafone will call (if in store) or text (if online) the number you are "porting" so you will need a SIM free phone or a friends phone on the relevant network to show the SIM is active to get the €20.

Nope, not that I can see.

This is the only site I've found that claims to do it:

    http://www.unlockonline.com/unlock-vodafone/unlock-vodafone-smart_4_turbo-by-codes.html

Unfortunately, there isn't a provider ID to use because this handset is made by Yulong and so my order gets rejected by their system.

I've had tickets and messages open with that crowd since August, and I haven't had a single reply. Any of the other unlocking sites I've found around the web I've messaged or emailed and they've said it can't.

i checked with a VF bricks and mortar shop recently and they were a bit tricky about the porting

insisted that i had to call them to prove the number was active not the other way round....which means topping up the tesco sim

carphone warehouse will do the same deal with no fuss

Snapdragon processor so much better chance of seeing some custom roms for this vs the mediatek smart 3.

I did the port a few months to avail to another offer with free tesco SIM, (they had vouchers for free at the check out), in my case they didn't even call me to prove it was my number, for my friend they did call the number, once they see was ringing is all they needed, maybe depends the store but if they say that to me to call them I will say I have no credit left if I was to top-up I wouldn't be able to port until the credit was used.

Mentioned it before, but no harm reminding people. If you, or someone you know, is tied to a bill pay account with VF ( Very likely in alot of cases i'd say ), then the bill holder has an entitlement to 3 x NAC requests per year. Done online and pretty instant. In many cases, you can bet that the account holder has no idea that this perk exists . Might be useful to someone.

I've done the porting in store several times and they have always called the number being ported. Luckily I have a SIM free dual SIM phone so it's not a hassle.

I have also ported online and VF will text a code to the number being ported which you need to enter before checking out.

AFAIK the €20 off for porting is with VF directly. I don't know if CPW give the discount but maybe someone else could clarify that.

An no that's okay. To me the turbo 2 looks just like my bros Hwawai phone so I thought it was a re-branded Huawei just from a visual inspection but I didn't research that. Regardless , it's not impossible for one company to make one cr*p phone and another good one. Actually that reminds me to say also that the build quality of the phone is excellent - not plasticity at all ! That app memory is more than enough for me ( actually i tough i saw 4gb on the specs on the vodaphone site. In any case I'm not an app queen but I do have tonnes on music that I actually prefer to put on the sd card.

It looked liked (almost) totally vanilla stock google android to me so I wouldn't even bother with the custom rom myself 'cause that's how I like it. That helps it to be super snappy to use in fact the best I've ever seen in any smartphone so qualifys for the title turbo for me :D

I got one of those. It's not a bad phone for the price, but bear on mind Vodafone doesn't actually provide 4G for pay as you go at the moment. In the shop they said it's coming 'soon'...

Had to do the same when porting for the smart 2. But I had credit anyway as I had a Three sim.
