    Local Station of the Year
    Music Station of the Year
Full Service Station of the Year

(List copied from BreakingNews.ie - can't post links)

I know there are mixed views on the PPI Awards and how relevant/reliable they are but sure it's always interesting to see who's gotten the nod, and who hasn't.

How does it work when a DJ moves station but is nominated for a previous station? E.g. Dermot & Dave are nominated in a number of categories for their show on 98. If they win, do they pick up the award or would someone from 98 pick it up? And lol at Cormac Moore being nominated for Best Newcomer yet he wasn't even with iRadio 6 months before his show was taken off air (I actually liked Cormac on the Cracked I, Daniella was awful though IMO).

As I said in the Ray Foley Show thread, can't believe that the show hasn't been nominated for Best Breakfast Show. It really is a great show. Also surprised Pat Kenny Show didn't get a nomination seeing as how it was hailed as the biggest thing ever to happen in the history of radio (well, if one were to believe thejournal.ie).

    PPI awards are a joke.

No guarantees ray foley entered, most likely did. But the judges change every year don't do they? So no rush real consistency there I guess?

Tony Fenton will win whatever category he is nominated for as a farewell and show of respect for his career in radio. He'll then retire and Louise will take over the show permanently.

I wouldn't bank on that. He'll get something, but I reckon it's more likely to be the Lifetime Achievement award.

PPI's are a bit of joke though, it's very much a case of them trying to evenly distribute awards and nominations to everyone. I mean, the year Ray Foley won best comedy inserts for The Gauntlet, they gave Mario Rosenstock the Lifetime award. :P

So basically every programme and presenter gets a nomination.

    Sound like jokes of awards

Not really, I haven't fully perused the list but I don't see Tubridy, Colm Hayes, Breakfast Republic or Rick O'Shea, and rightly so may I add.
One again well done Dan Healy, great schedule reshuffle! 😂

Stations put forward their best work. There's a panel of judges (radio people) for each category that listen independently, then they meet and agree on a top 5 which is the list above. Winners announced at a ceremony in October.

    Not every one gets shortlisted.

Rumor is that it's Colm O'sullivans slot Louise Duffy is getting in the long term.

I think you read that rumour on the same thread I did. And I don't think anyone considers 7pm on a weeknight as prime time.

It would be good if newstalk got news broadcaster of the year. Rte radio 1 got it last year. Why wasn't pat kenny's show on newstalk short listed? Disgraceful. Who are these so called judges that rate radio programs?

I have a problem with any nomination that includes the phrase "Nicky Byrne" :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,112 ✭✭✭✭L1011

That's not the complete list of judges at all; that's the board of the awards I think. Each category has separate judges.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 181 ✭✭eiresandra

You're right, MYOB. That's the PPI Awards committee members. There are about 70 judges, generally either PDs or CEOs of Irish and some UK stations.

I can understand a nomination for best newcomer, but his show is too new for any other award.

Has his show not been on air for about 6 months now? I think thats enough time to warrant a nomination, considering the entry is a selection of the shows best bits, all the audio could be from one week and still be considered.

I do find it annoying he is getting the nod when it's Jenny who does most of the work on the show it seems.

The awards cover to the end of June iirc, so that's even less time to have an entry from
