    Hi all,

Just wondering if anybody can share any input as to why neighbours directly on both side, and a few across the road are being offered 70MB by Eircom, whereas my address is only showing as 15MB. We are not rural at all.

I've been in touch with Eircom, but they have just reiterated what the online checker says, without investigating any further.

The only thing I can think of is that we've never been an Eircom customer at the address, so maybe they don't have proper stats available for our line?

Cheers if anybody can shed any light!

edit: Oh and if it's any help, from what I can see on the Fibre Rollout Map on here, I'm only approx. 160metres from the cabinet.

If you're doing this by address then its most likely a databasing issue. Have you got an active landline?

yes there is an active landline, just not with eircom (was utv, now Vodafone).

I'm doing the check for my address with the landline number, however the checks on the surrounding area I'm doing by address.

if you know one of the neighbours phone number, you could try and check that and see what it says for that on the onlinechecker as it might be wrong for all numbers there.

just tried that and it hasn't made any difference unfortunately! a neighbour across the road (closest to the cabinet) is being quoted 100MB! It's a housing estate so I can't see any reason why our line would be worse then any others.

We have a stable 15MB or so connection on ADSL, and are currently on a rolling contract with quite a good deal, so slow to upgrade to eFibre if there won't be any performance boost.

A fault can throw the prequal test that rates your line but wont necessarily degrade day to day performance. That or your cable path is different, can happen.

EDIT: If you're getting a reading for your current speed you could be waiting on a 2nd cab, some areas need a pair to provide enough capacity.

Thanks for that, I think we might wait a while and see if anything changes. Not in any rush to change over now, as our current deal is quite good and am generally happy enough with speeds, but would never say no to more!
