Picket on Taoiseachs office from tomorrow morning

Farmers will begin a picket of Enda Kennys Constituency office in Castlebar from tomorrow morning at 11am.

This >unfortunate< action has come about due to major difficulties for hill & commonage farmers in new Dept. of Agriculture proposals.

    The main issues are:

50% collective agreement prior to entry into GLAS. (Now massaged into nicer words "Management Agreement").
Linking Min/Max numbers to SFP which will have knock on effects of requiring a planner for SFP & the likelihood of no environmental programmes for hill & commonage farmers in future CAP agreements.

The picket is organised in such a way that no farmer participating in any team should have to picket for more than one day per month. The hours are from 11am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday.

The picket will end upon proper resolution of the outstanding issues, how ever long that may take.

No extra monies are being sought, only work on the details so as to give hill & commonage farmers a fair and level playing field.

Anyone wishing to participate can contact myself via PM.

Addition to second point re SFP, changing definition of "active farmer" with possible effect of ruling some out of SFP with little chance to redress situation.

It didn't go to plan, lad making the atv roller took off, it's made now but yet to get delivery. Sprayed off, but no seed in ground so far! Don't mention the war type situation ;)

Its called strategy. Rolling picket with predefined teams. One day wonder is no use. We saw that in Dublin.

You'll find that with opposition parties, they support everything because they have to deliver nothing. I'm sure lads were saying that about labour and FG five years ago.

I'll have to be like RTE now and a bit balanced but our FG Galway West TD Sean Kyne was at Westport too, and he's put in genuinely trojan work on our behalf.
