Who would you nominate to write "Ireland: A User Guide ".

The would have to know about mechanisms of the State, the church, economy and cultural life. The person knows about the Irish, their history, their contradictions and their foibles.

In order words, which social commentator has Ireland completely sussed?

    I nominate Fintan O'Toole.

There are three states of legality in Irish law.

There is all this stuff here under "That's grand"; then it moves into "Ah, now, don't push it"; and finally to "Right! You're taking the piss." And that's where the police sweep in.

I think the "Fail" bit in the name might be off-putting for Tourists. They don't see Failte, they see Fail te Ire land. And go "Wut?". Maybe change it to "BigWin Ireland"?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
