I'm 6ft and all my irons are 3/4" extra long. They are also 2' upright as I have been fit at that. My woods are all standard length, but fairways fitted with heavier shafts as that's my personal preference.

I've found mcguirks ok, I used the one in blanch mostly during my buying years, where I would buy a club or two a few times a year, a wedge or fairway wood or putter.

I had a simple method, I'd take 20% off the marked price and offer that, only hit them on Fridays and at the end of months. Wouldn't buy unless I got at least 15%. I'd hit them at that time because sales people are at the end of weekly or monthly targets, same as I was and that's the best time to deal.

Recently back to golf and I've been to halpenny who were only starting off before my break away and the branch in lucan specifically. John who manages is excellent and interested in customers and a chat, he's in his fifties and he definitely worked in mcguirks blanch at one stage.

I have a set of taylormade 2006 rac tp forged irons that are made to my specs that I stopped using because I was bought a set of callaways, I'm back to using them but they needed new grips. 7euro each for corded compounds and he fit one there and then free of charge and told me to try it out at the range as I needed an extra layer. I spent half an hour talking **** and got a free grip.

Went back the following week and john was on holidays. the guy on took my irons in and said he'd have them the following day. I called in 3 days later and he hadn't done them because he was busy. I'd called by the shop a few times during the day going to woodies and another shop and the place was empty with staff chatting at the counter.

When I got my clubs back he took a chunk off the price and said that one of the other guys had asked if I'd sell them to him. I think he was just buttering me up but I actually like the layout and pricing is good.

I've also been to mcguirks and I might as well as been a ghost as someone mentioned. That's what you get for being a 6ft fat guy who doesn't look like a pro I guess 😉

    Just as an addition.....

I ordered a daddy long legs putter from halpenny Lucan (left hander), must have been about 3 weeks ago. The guy behind the counter actually rang taylormade and ordered it in front of me. He took my number, said it would take 2 weeks. Never heard back from them. Strange. Anyway got sorted with a different putter.
