Section of floor a couple of inches higher than the rest

    (Picture attached)

    Hi

I moved into a new house recently. There’s an issue with the floor in the living room and I’m trying to find out whether there would be much involved in fixing it.

There is a section of the floor, maybe 3 foot by 7 foot that’s an inch or two higher than the rest of the floor. It’s been done like this on purpose but I’m not sure why. I’m wondering if it’s possible to lift the floorboards do something to the floor underneath and then put the boards back so the whole floor is level. I’m pretty sure there are no pipes under that part of the floor. And in the picture below the kitchen in on the other side of that wall.

Does anyone know why the floor might be like this and how much work would be involved to change it?

    Thanks.

Are they floor boards or is it a laminate floor?
Is it all sitting on concrete? Is there any chance that its the beginning of an extension.

You usually see that when there is a difference in the level of a concrete floor - so its not easy to fix in that case.

Im sure it was done for a reason cos its pretty cat way to leave it.

Floor boards. And, yes, it is the start of the extension.

    Cheers.

Well then im assuming its concrete straight underneath. Best you might be able to do there is bring up the level so the step is at the door rather than just inside it - but its much of a muchness really.
