Builders who change their name

We are enquiring about builders at the moment and noticed that quite a few have changed their company name in the last few years. Should this ring alarm bells? Other than hiding something what is the reason for them changing their name? 2008/2009 seems to be quite a common time for them doing this. I understand some have broken away from partners etc but we have noticed that quite a few in our area are only registered with their new name for a few years yet claim to be building for 20+ years. Obviously we are researching as best we can but have noticed a common trend with this.

Banks stopped lending,Developers/clients stopped paying, contractors didn't pay suppliers. Many folded their companies and started again. Research, look at their work & get personal recommendations

....oh yeah, btdt (as a client that is............). Ended up in court with mine, he lost, promptly folded his tent and removed signage from his van and I got left carrying the can.............

...he's still around, but with an oh-so-subtely modified trading name...........on the side of the same van........

    Very caveat, very emptor.

Get actual names of actual clients, and make a point of talking and visiting them. If you get resistance to this, well, keep on looking.......

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
