Opinions wanted on Mario Joseph, Muslim Imam

That's a very long video, and he does go on a bit.

The comments below the video are a good place to start in getting opinions, once you look past the trolls.

    Here are some:

"You do know you're supporting a liar, right? For example: 50/23 has nothing to do with Mary PBUH, neither does the whole of surah 50. Look:
"And his companion, [the angel], will say, "This [record] is what is with me, prepared."
    Qur'an 50/23
You won't find anywhere in the Qur'an that 'Mary was raised to heaven with her physical body', won't find that anywhere in any kind of wording."

"He said 3/34 is referring to Mary PBUH being boring without original sin, please read: "Descendants, some of them from others. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing."

"for an "imam" who studied for 10 yrs, every single reference he mentioned from the Qur'an was wrong, and no where to be found in the unknown 6,666 verses Qur'an he used (original has 6,236)."

"He missed the miracles being "by the permission of Allah"

I really don't have the time to sit down, watch the video for half an hour and then go dissecting the points he makes. From the little bit of the video I have seen, I've got enough to conclude that he's either very misinformed and has managed to get a very different interpretation of the Quran to the rest of us, or (especially considering his quotes are off the mark) it's a (superficially) well put together fake video designed to spread misinformation - and God knows how many of them are flying around on youtube.

I think Mario Joseph is correct in much of his references if you were to watch all the video.

    Surat Maryam is about Mary

Among the persons of Sacred History mentioned in the Koran, the Virgin Mary occupies an important position on the historical and dogmatic plane. In addition to being the object of as many as thirty-four direct or indirect references, Mary also gives Sura XIX its name and is its central figure as the mother of Jesus.

Indeed, he got that and a few other things correct, but if it's to be believed that this chap was a genuine Imam (and thereby knew his stuff), then "correct in much of his references" is simply not good enough for his story to be credible when much of what else he says (as above) is glaringly erroneous. Whatever about his subsequent personal interpretations, if he quotes passages from the Quran that aren't even there, then that raises an eyebrow, or two.

He seems to make correct references, for example, here is where Jesus makes clay into a bird.

    http://quran.com/3/49
'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allah

Yes, and you can go ahead and quote other things he correctly referenced, but, I'll copy and paste - if it's to be believed that this chap was a genuine Imam (and thereby knew his stuff), then "correct in much of his references" is simply not good enough for his story to be credible when much of what else he says (as above) is glaringly erroneous.
