Coming Back to Android

    Hey all,

So after just under 2 years of playing with Windows Phones, I've decided that the time has come to move things back to Android. WP is full of potential but it's not really going anywhere IMO - recent updates while welcome, are really just about bringing the platform up to par with the competition, the lack of local apps is bothering me and the lack of a clear direction from MS isn't doing anything to inspire me either.

My last Android was a Note 2 (having previously had a Note 1 and various others before that) so I'm familiar with the basics like rooting, custom ROMs and so on, but I do have a few questions before my Note 3 arrives tomorrow (as a stopgap before I get my new Note 4)....

    - First off, what's the "best" Note 3 ROM these days? I like my ROMs as "bloat free" As possible, or at least with the option to choose what's installed

    - I hate the GMail interface (there I said it!). The lack of proper folders always annoyed me and "labels" did nothing for me. Unless this has since been addressed I'll still be using my Outlook.com address as the primary (with Gmail redirected to it).
Last time I had problems syncing with Exchange/Outlook but the Touchdown app did work once I played with all the settings and trail and error. Is this still the one to use or have things improved?

    - What are the "must have"/"core" apps these days (I don't mean games). I'm thinking SMS (Handcent previously), Viber, Whatsapp, Hailo - y'know.. useful stuff :)

    - What's the best app these days for being able to view/answer SMS and calls on a Windows desktop now? There were various ones I tried before with mixed results. Any one stand out now?

Any other major changes or features these days I should know about?

    Thanks in advance guys :)

Never rommed any of my phones but the email apps I have used and still use are k9 mail, inomail, cloudmagic.

I advise you and anyone else looking to go back into android to get the amazon app store, log in using your amazon account if you do and sometimes get the free app of the day, they can be premium apps that you might have to pay for on the play store. Also amazon did something a while back where you got 1000 coins worth about $10 for installing apps. you dont need to install them you just got the coins for installing them to the cloud * where your amazon apps are stored till you install them.

I use GoSms pro. Had handcent and chomp but I prefer gs. it can allow you to schedule texts, hide certain texts from contacts and the likes, * i am unsure of any other apps that allow that, but that was the one I ended up using.

    * check them all on the play store to see which one you actually like
