We aren't fair on ourselves

    The average person doesn't feel thankful for what LIFE truly is. It's incredible that I can smoke, drink and rock on a wooden chair while gazing at a neighborhood in the middle of the night. We are all on a rock, flying through space.
    Life. Evolution. Technology. Its all taken for granted and gave to "God" as the source. That really isn't fair to us. To scientists. To life in general. When people thank "god" for things, they thank NOTHING. It is completely misplaced.

    It's that time alright. Sunday night, only a coupleof hours before bedtime. Then you've work in the morning, bills to pay, the whole miserable fcuking rat race existence. Makes you ponder.

    Oh well, roll on payday.

    I agree. I think there's a lot of negativity towards humanity, and some of it is absolutely justified. However finding the things in life that are good is important for the richest man down to the most impoverished woman. It's very hard for people though. It's quite saddening actually.

    It's called Cannabis. Some people call it "Marijuana". Others go as far as saying "Weed" or "Dope". The rastas call it "Ganja"

    Some people find a strange predilection for jazz while smoking it.

    I don't want to take the wind out of your post but when people say "Thank god for that", I don't think they really are thanking god. Some people may be indeed thanking god but for myself it's just a turn of phrase.

    People also say "To hell with that". Some people may believe hell exists, I don't believe there is a hell so to speak. It's just another turn of phrase. :D

    Yeah I agree with what your saying but many successful people in life are extremely grateful to "god" for helping them. Lots of people who are very ill and recover are convinced that their prayers have been answered when it is really the developments in humanity that have allowed them to live on.

    I think there's a weird handwashing going on with God. People use God as an excuse to take responsibility from themselves. It can be used as a method of comfort in saying someone was "Taken" as god's will, but equally it's used to dismiss violence and hate, because God willed it. It would be a lot scarier for people to admit they hate someone for their own reasons and not because they are following some divine plan, or to be able to dismiss someone's wrongdoing as a "sin" but that something human made them do it. Equally it takes from good things, the good things people do aren't because people can be good and are good, it's because God blessed them, or they're doing God's work.

    It's a weird way of rejecting the idea that we are responsible for what we have done.

    I agree with you too. I suppose the religion thing gives people hope. My father in law died from cancer aged 43. He was never a religious person but before he died he went to Lourdes and turned to prayer. It was sad to see.........

    As an aside....certain people will try to convince you it was god that inspired people to find cures. Bit of a leap I know...but shur if you have faith you'll understand.:rolleyes:

    They're always catholic atheists. Its the guilt thing that makes them blather on. Protestant atheists are the ones you see on gameshows that think the bible is a work by JK Rowling.

    Everyone knows the Bible was Tolkien, Rowling ripped it off to write the Quran. Get your facts straight!

    There's a serious bang of wilful nescience off this thread, but then again all is vanity and there's nothing new under the sun.

    Some are quadruple guitars, there's two more at the back that you can't see.

    That bang isn't nescience, it's his cannabinoids combusting....

    A generation goes, and a generation comes,
    but the earth remains forever.

    The sun rises, and the sun goes down,
    and hastens to the place where it rises.

    The wind blows to the south
    and goes around to the north;
    around and around goes the wind,
    and on its circuits the wind returns.

    All streams run to the sea,
    but the sea is not full;
    to the place where the streams flow,
    there they flow again.

    All things are full of weariness;
    a man cannot utter it;
    the eye is not satisfied with seeing,
    nor the ear filled with hearing.

    What has been is what will be,
    and what has been done is what will be done,
    and there is nothing new under the sun.

    Is there a thing of which it is said,
    “See, this is new”?
    It has been already
    in the ages before us.

    There is no remembrance of former things,
    nor will there be any remembrance
    of later things yet to be among those who come after.
