Selling on paypal

I have an item to sell by 600€ and the buyer cannot collect the item personally.

He suggested paypal, but what guarantee I have he doesn't trick me, saying he never received the item, the item doesn't work, etc., taking his money back from my paypal account?

Paypal works on proof of delivery , so once the buyer signs for parcel , he commits himself to agreeing he received item.

    Hi everyone,

If you have received a request from a buyer in Nigeria, I recommend reviewing this thread about a common scam. The things mentioned mentioned here lead me to believe the contact you received may match the scam. PayPal does not offer services in that region, and Seller Protection only applies to items shipped to an address registered with the PayPal account and specified in the transaction details.

    I hope this helps!

I had already lots of people telling me is safe to sendby registered post... I'm glad I don't believe in everything people tell me in person or in forums, without doing my checks.... 600€ would have gone.

Now all transactions have been canceled ;)

I'm sure they assumed that you were shipping to Ireland. No need to be smart

You didn't mention Nigeria until after the registered post suggestions. Otherwise you'd have been told to forget about it.

Now I understand you. Of course they wanted to help.

But we should believe in everything people say....

And when I opened the topic even my thought I would be posting to the UK, but went, checked and read on paypal site how do they protect the buyer and the seller.

Then looked for scams from sailors stuck in a boat and offering a present to their son ;)

You received good advice given the information you provided. You then provided more information re the destination and were given different advice. I'm not sure what your problem is with the advice that was originally given.

The fact that they sent you an email that said
Am okay with the price, am posting the phone to my son in oversea am a marine biologist in Uk i will also be paying for postage also.

and didnt realise then that it was a scam leads me to believe you need to read up on common scams before selling items that are worth €600. These scams have been around for a long time. If you cant recognise them then perhaps its best if you avoid selling on eBay.

Both buyers clearly said that they wanted the items shipped overseas. You had this information before you started this thread but chose not to share it.

It was not clear to me, the mails were a big mess between UK and "Overseas somewhere".
I really thought in one of them, that "the son" would be located in the UK, until I received the delivery address.

But I guess I'm to stupid to read my own emails...

Anyway if I open a thread about security in Paypal, it's reasonable people warn me about the ongoing scams, don't you think?

Yes it's me I'm a very low intelligence guy, and have no expience on the Internet.

There's no problem with the advices, just looks like people on this thread don't like if users question the advices.

If I wouldn't suspect of people I would have been scammed.
If I wouldn't have opened the thread, I would have been scammed.

After opening the thread yesterday, I would have really no motive to be afraid.

After all, paypal and registered post are a super guarantee, right? (ops, except in Nigeria, and even paypal doesn't mention the countries excluded from their policy on the page where they explain how they protect the buyer and the seller).

Regular people would have been scammed.

Because I'm an idiot, I have no internet experience, and I check everything I read or the others tell me, I wasn't scammed.

The people trying to scam you have no intention of using Paypal. What they will do is send you an email purporting to be from Paypal and hope that you dont check your paypal account properly.

There are a number of red flags you need to look out for :

The seller is located in one country but want you to ship it to a different country. Paypal will not cover you if you do not send the item to the buyers registered paypal address.

Anybody who immediately accepts the price you ask.

Anybody who offers you more than they should. These guys offered to pay your paypal fees. They are the sellers problem, not the buyers.

Anybody who starts off the transaction with a big story with information that isnt relevant. Client 1 screams scam in this regard.

any one of the above would make me run a mile. When you get all of them at the same time it cannot be anything but a scam.

don't ship expensive items abroad. its common sense.

Ask for names, look him up on facebook. Try do the deal there.

Look for something to prove hes the real deal.

The best thing you can do here is not part with your expensive item until you have €600 hard cash in your hand. Your item has attracted the attention of scammers, (often the case when you advertise online) who you need to ignore completely. Do your deal face to face!

Paypal include the address when they send you the email notifying you of payment. Do not ship to any other address. and Make sure that the email is actually from paypal by checking your paypal account online. do not click on any paypal links in the email. open paypal.com in a separate window.
