I own a Philips DVD home theater system HTS3568 (5.1) and am looking to replace the DVD player that came with the system. I want to get a blu ray player that is capable of playing .mkv files through a usb stick. I'd like to keep the speakers that came with the set so am only looking to replace the dvd player. Any suggestions as to a particular one that will allow me to connect the speakers into without hassle?

The Phillips integrated home cinema has limitations for an upgrade -
Firstly the speakers attached to it ( esp the sub-woofer ) are designed to work on that system alone . The satellites can be moved to an AV Amp but you are going to need a powered sub-woofer.
Secondly the only way to "upgrade" it would be by purchasing a second hand "head unit" with that support , as Phillips don't retail theses separately.

Your best option IMO is to purchase something's like Samsung's BD-F6500 bluray player which supports MKV and 3D. Useing this as the play back divice conect it to the HTS3568 optical input to hear 5.1
