More importantly, why was number 5 playing every play for both offence and defence? How fit is he?

If being serious College ball you can corresponding numbers on both offense and defense. So No 5 was two guys.

If not being serious carry on.

Thanks, yeah I was serious. I was thinking they have so many players how can no one take his place or be good enough to play MLB and WR. I take it they have players wearing 1-99 then if they have over 99 players they start again at position numbers?

Its a combination of roster size and numbering rules by position. The max size of the roster can be 105 of the top of my head of the 105 you usually get red shirted guys so for the most part some teams never actually suit up over 100 guys. But allowing guys to wear the same number on both sides of the ball definitely helps them hand out proper numbers as in college like the NFL certain positions can only wear certain numbers especially offensive guys so you can imagine you are limited with numbers with a roster that big.

Cheers. Always learning stuff about this game. Like the guys with the yardage markers. I had to ask why one guys was not in line. Obviously he was marking the previous plays spot in case of a penalty.

    Situational substitution.

Imagine a rugby match where you could bring on a specialist kicker just to kick penalties or conversions.

With football, the Yanks have taken this to its logical conclusion, with specialists for every job on the field, and you can change members of your team between plays. So, after a touchdown, the offence leaves the field and a specialized team for conversions comes on.
