Hi guys just wondering when do you think the public sector jobs moratorium will be completely lifted in that they start to replace retired staff and resignees.I have been offered a job within a public sector organisationbut just worried after spending a few years on bad money for them the work will end.

It seems to be coming to an end. There's already an ongoing open competition for clerical officers. Rumours of one for executive officers further into the Autumn.

Wonder will there be less or more competition for the EO comp than the CO? Probably, as the starting pay is higher. But are the application requirements more stringent?

Everybody who applied for CO will be up for it. Then throw in the people who gave that a pass knowing that EO was coming up.
I don't think its more stringent on paper. In reality, they'll be looking for third level qualifications and / or some evidence of real world experience. So if you don't have a degree but did manage 10 staff in a clothes shop that would count.

Everyone who applied for CO will be entered into the EO competition?

No...but they're naturally going to reapply. So thats 28500 again. Like you say, the money will be better so I'd double that figure to get an idea of the numbers applying for (probably) less jobs.

Oh my god, why would you bother?

Would it be the same kind of aptitude tests?

I don't know. But the last time was so much fun, I can't see why not.:)

There is literally no point in most people applying, myself included. :pac:

Ah go on. The CO thing was a practice run. This time we know whats coming.
Seriously, the old EO practice tests are somewhere on the publicjobs website. They're not rocket science.

The thing with these tests is that there is a large random element to them esp the job simulation questions.
So even if you got a bad result from the CO you might get a top score in the EO.
I'd bash away at them anyhow if you have any interest in the area.
But I'd keep my focus on other jobs/careers.

Civil service is in my view like a lottery you're not entirely sure would be worth winning :)

Finally if anyone is interested in politics etc for example I'd volunteer with a local counciller or TD rather than waiting (maybe years) to see it from the civil service side.
