Hailo receipt vs meter fare

Got a taxi via Hailo last night. I don't have a card registered on my account, always pay cash.

When we got to the destination, the meter said 8.70. Which seemed about right: the opposite journey is usually 8, plus or minus a bit for traffic etc. The driver didn't ear-bash me on the journey, so I rounded up to E9.

Today I took a peek at the receipt that Hailo sent me, and see that it only says 7.50.

I guess that means the driver has some way of telling Hailo that the journey is over, other than turning off the meter. I wonder if it means that the driver is essentially reducing the commission that Hailo takes.

Hailo take 12% commission on fares.
If the driver stopped the meter early as you suggest, then he will be charged 90 cent for a 7.50 journey as against 1.04 for the metered amount of 8.70.

He is being dishonest to say the least, but most drivers have hailo now and they also have put their rates too. You could report him to hailo, and maybe they will kick him off their system, but that's a whole lot of hassle for 14 cent.

Hailo also takes 12% of tips that are paid by cards, so now I always put zero tip into the app and tip the driver in cash.

You don't know he was being dishonest, you're making an assumption and taking his character without knowing the full facts.
Most drivers do not have Hailo now.
Please explain what you mean by the above ,highlighted?

There's no link between the phone and the meter afaik. The driver inputs the amount on their Hailo app.
So the driver could realistically discount every journey they put into Hailo. Though I'm sure Hailo run algorithms on this stuff to work out estimated costs and so forth and detect drivers who are gaming the system.

A lot of drivers took exception to Hailo upping the commission to 12% when there has been no fare increase for 4 years. I don't blame him for artificially keeping the rate at 10%

Isn't 12% a blended rate consisting of an increased rate (from 10%) for cash fares and a decreased rate (from 14%) for credit card fares?

No, Hailo terms are a flat % on all fares, they were doing a deal whereby you could take credit cards for street jobs ( at own risk ) at 4% but I believe the drivers have been told recently that they can no longer accept CC that aren't registered to a Hailo account

    EDIT

    The old T&Cs are here

Yeah 2008 reviewed for 2 years, next review was 2010 No Increase, Next 2012 No Increase, review every 2 years, review due this year betting is on a modest 4% and a tinkering with the initial pick up charge of 4.10/4.45

Anyways as I said a lot of drivers were disgruntled about Hailo banging up the commission to 12% when taxi fares were frozen

If they're unhappy with Hailo, they don't have to use it. There's nothing stopping them waiting at a rank or joining a radio company. Screwing the hand that feeds you is a childish response, especially since the Hailo app knows your location and speed all the time so it would be simple for them to spot a driver that is repeatedly inaccurate.

I'm just answering the query, matters not a jot to me if Hailo are 10,12 or 15% I just keep abreast of taxi related things.

But putting a skew on it, didn't Hailo bite the hands that provides them the capability of making money?

Hailo is gone a bit like eBay IMHO.. Rates are a tad OTT. Good time for a competitor to enter the market I reckon.
