Which Rose....

I'm about to pull the trigger on a Rose bike. I am in the 1300 to 1600 price bracket. I have decided on Ultegra which pretty much leaves me with three choices, all around the same price so price not an issue:

Pro SL 3000 - alu frame @ 1349, I had been thinking up upgrading the Aksium to DT Swiss 23 spline which brings it up to 1600 (including tyres)
    http://www.rosebikes.com/bike/rose-pro-sl-3000-2014/aid:668381

Xeon RS 3000 - seems like all the same as above but with the Kysrium Elite S wheelset @ 1499 (down from 1695)
    http://www.rosebikes.com/bike/rose-xeon-rs-3000-2014/aid:669160

Xeon CSL 3000 - 1599 (down from 1799) but a carbon frame Kysrium wheelset

So what I don't know...should I go for the carbon just because it is carbon? I have been inclined to go for the more durable alu frame as it's my first road bike and I dont want to crack it doing newbie stuff. But now that the carbon is within reach I'm not so sure.

If I go Alu....are the DT Swiss 23 spline with GP4000 S II better than the Kysrium, or how do they compare? I have looked at reviews and am still unsure.

Hope someone can answer the above two questions, or help me make up my mind!! I'd appreciate any feedback.

I've heard the kysriums are quite harsh on the road, the DT swiss are supposed to be more comfortable, which may be an advantage on the alu frame. I'm not sure how much of that is tyre related though as the mavics come with their own tyres.
Personally, if it was me, I'd rule out the pro sl altogether.
If I was getting the Xeon RS, I'd change the wheels to the 23 splines with GP4000s 25mm tyres, I'd also change the monolink seatpost to the WCS flexlogic 300mm, it's no extra, as you'd be very limited to saddle choice with monolink. Obviously youd have to choose another saddle, I'd go for the Fizik R7, but thats a personal choice.

Xeon CSL, again I'd change the wheels and saddle. (Just for your info, the CSL frame is identical the CRS frame in every way apart from the name, same weight, same geometry, same frame).

I would get the CSL :)

    Yeah obviously :confused::confused:

Anyhow, I think I will go with the carbon. Sure if the frame breaks I still have good wheels and Ultegra, and a reason to go shopping again!!

Pedals, again a personal choice. I use shimano 105's.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I am in the market for a road bike and I am considering the Rose Pro SL-2000 (2015 model)

Regarding the configuration, is there any recommended changes to the bike? such as pedals ( I won't be wearing bicycle shoes, just everyday fitness runners), tyres for a more comfortable ride, this will be my first proper road, looking to do sub circa 100km spins on it

Also, what is the turnaround service from the point of the order?

    Thanks

Ordered the same Aug 18th. Estimated time of build is Sept 23rd with about a week for delivery.

It was recommended to upgrade the seatpost to a carbon one for comfort and someone on here recommended changing the mavic aksium to dt swiss r23 spline. I didn't make that change myself due to budget.

rose are great bikes. ive a xeon rs 3000, but i got them to build up ultegra/dt/cxp33 wheels coz im c90kg. they knocked a few quid off, and 18 months later, everything is still nice and smooth. not the best wheels for the hills, but reliable. no need for carbon imo with this kinda alu and id worry too much locking it at work if it were fully plastic
