Mavic Ksyrium Elite

    Hi Guys,

My Mavic Ksyrium Elite rear wheel comes to a stop comparatively quickly after spinning on a bike stand. And on the stand if I move the pedals backwards, the wheel starts to spin in reverse, slowly at first but its speeds up.

Is there likely a bearing in the freehub on its way out ?
Anybody any info on repairing ?
If this is the issue is it a big job for a bike mechanic ?

    Thanks

Freehub bushing is probably on its way out. You can buy another freehub or replace bushing with one of these.

Price is good but looking at the estimated delivery time on that it is a few weeks. Notice also that on ebay all shops stocking the freehub seem to be based in the US.

Anybody know a competitively priced European or UK supplier ?

I have ordered freehub bushings twice though from that particular seller on ebay and both times I have only been waiting about a week. I actually have that link saved as its a quite common problem and the bushings only cost about 20% the price of a whole new freehub.

Ok thanks for that, price is certainly lower than CRC and I guess they are being careful with their estimated delivery time.

Needed to drop in to local bike mechanic so got him to have a look. He opened it up and said the bushings were fine and the problem he reckoned was extra rubbing due to a worn seal:

If the seal was taken out it would run free but this is not recommended due to dirt/contamination. He put in an extra washer in to keep the body a little away from the seal and it runs a lot more free now. He suggested replacing the seal. Seals themselves are cheap but you get hit on either postage or minimum order to avoid it. Ended up ordering this kit:

as I reckon it is only a matter of time before something else goes in it.

If I am getting a good wheel again I think I'd look at buying it with spares and tools ... have another deep section planet x wheel which needs truing and the mechanic didn't have the specific spoke key for it so had to order that too.
