Have been told to bring my degree and masters to an interview next week. Is this normal? Kinda getting my hopes up that they may not be interviewing many at all?

Never been asked that; in one job I was asked to send a scanned copy in but that's been about it. Most likely what they are doing is simply cutting short the number of BSers who lie about their degree by requesting the copies up front to save time.

Really your employer has never asked for proof of your degree. Find that odd but hey maybe I don't know the market as well as I should.

Well after a number of years of work experience the point of your degree is not really of much interest for your future employer :). The last time I switched company the time spent on my degree was "Do you have a university degree?" Me "Yes" and then another hour discussion what I've done in my previous positions etc.

I've ever heard of this. Surely they'd accept, if still current, a login to the Uni account so as to view the degree and the various grades.

I suppose in this day and age, people would be more inclined to tell a white lie. Maybe the Company was burned before by an Employee who fibbed their way into a role without the relevant qualifications or weren't suitably qualified for the role. I wouldn't be surprised if more Companies start doing this.

Worked in a big company before and I had to give HR my Masters, Degree, LC and JC when I joined. Not at the interview stage though.

Had two interviews with VHI recently and was asked to bring in my degree, exam results etc for the second interview.

I've heard of this, but only for very specialised graduate-level roles where having the qualification was of utmost importance; like law, health sciences, etc.

As someone who works in technology, I've never once been asked to present proof of my degree, either as a photocopy of the cert or a transcript from the university.

I and all the other interview attendees had to be bring this proof for a QC tech position a few years ago in the UK. There was 2 positions and 13 interviewees. So it doesn't necessarily mean you're a shoo-in.

Maybe some employers use it as a sh1t test for very popular positions - weed out candidates who are badly lying on their CVs or who are incapable of reading the instructions before the interview.

I wouldn't have come to that conclusion.

It's likely just a HR person who knows many people lie about their qualifications.

Well that I can understand. I would expect your first few jobs after your degree it would still be important enough to verify.

It's been varied in my personal experience even though I've always worked in health science/pharma industry where things are generally more stringent.

First job - all they cared about was my passport to prove I could legally work in Ireland (I'm Irish).
Second job - passport again and that was it.
Third job - I've had to provide my masters and degree for my new employer as well as a host of other stuff that has been a complete pain.

Edit: All of this was after accepting an offer.

So OP, I wouldn't think it's unusual that they're asking for this. As others have said it could just be to catch out any bullsh*tters or maybe it's just policy for that company.

Best of luck in the interview.

I've been asked to produce evidence of my degree during a background check for large US tech companies, but it has always been after a job offer.

All PAS (Public Appointment Service) Interviews require the interviewee bring their qualifications with them- and its been this way for the public sector for at least the last decade.

It really depends. In all honesty- experience will trump qualifications 99 times out of a hundred- holding, or the lack of, a particular qualification, really doesn't mean an awful lot in today's day and age.......
