I see a report about the Coastguard Helicopter being targeted recently with Green lasers.

While I absolutely understand that attacking a pilot is dangerous and illegal - is mere possession of one of these lasers an offence or do you have to do something stupid with one ?

It's a specialised question and I don't know the answer. Maybe the Aviation and Aircraft forum would have the exact answer.

They're not illegal to own, you can buy them as presentation aids. Standing in front of a screen or even at the back of the room giving a Powerpoint presentation they are very useful to highlight parts of your slide.

As usual the actions of a few idiots has given a perfectly good tool a bad name.

Like previously stated not illegal to own. However pointing it in someone's eye causing discomfort is Sec 2 Assault.

If you go to the airsoft forum and search for green lasers you'll get an answer. This thread though 2 years old seems to hold the best info. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056528914
