Recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 (3542) laptop, running Windows 8.1. I tried to install the driver for my Lexmark x5495 printer, but it told me that it wasn't compatible with Windows8. Anyone any solution for this, or will I have to upgrade my printer?

Could be a long shot but you could try the win7/Vista drivers for it.

You may not get any of the printers nice bells and whistles but at least it may be able to print. ;)

If you have the driver file downloaded, right click on it, select Properties, Compatibility tab and run the drivers in compatibility mode for Windows 7 or whichever OS you used before. Not guaranteed to work but might well fix the issue for you

Follow the link for Windows 8 at the top right.

    http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=product&segment=SUPPORT&productCode=LEXMARK_X5495&locale=en&userlocale=EN#1

I'm on my phone so navigation want very easy, but it should get you what you need.
