Lost & Confused About Career And Life :(

    Hi all,

I appreciate some direction or advice about my life because right now I feel as low as a snakes belly.

I am 28, unemployed with no uni degree. Last year I said enough was enough and enrolled in the Open University for a BA in Business and Economics. I DON'T WANT to be sitting on my ass for the next three years and being unemployed is giving me serious anxiety attacks. I just feel I'm running out of time. Who in their right mind is going to employ a 30 year old with no experience? Or even better, who is going to employ me now with no degree?! It's a catch 22.

I feel desperate about my future prospects. I was thinking of dropping out of the OU and shadowing an accountant to do my ACA's eventually. At least I'll be working, earning money and will have some kind of credibility in a few years as opposed to walking out of the OU with no experience. I'm so lost. I'm a motivated person but I just need some direction.

    :(

I think you should take some time and think about what YOU really would like to do for the next 40 or so years. Whether it be working with animals, or old people, or kids.
Pick what you like to do and try and get a course that allows you to pursue it.
As long as you're happy that's all that matters.

Ah well, I mean I wouldn't feel so downhearted then. Do you have any idea as to what you want to do? Is it business?

What would your ideal job be?

To be honest there are companies that would hire you. A 30 year old intern is more likely to be stable and hard working that a lad/lass just out of college. Life experience and all that.

    Can you do both?
Continue with the OU and try to get a job maybe interning in your chosen field to gain experience.

And pay no attention to age. My brother was laid off at 48 and decided to go to college. 5 years later (plc and 4 years in IT) he has a whole new career!
Moral of the tale, you're never to old to learn and never to old to start again.

    Good luck

Hi OP, this could be an ideal time to step back and figure what you really want in life. Where are you interests and If you don't know try figure where they lie. It would be ideal to find a job you would enjoy.

Don't fret about the age. I feel many people think about what they *really* want approaching 30. I suppose it's better to think about these things now as opposed to another 20 years down the road.

If you enjoy the course continue it, if not maybe look into other options that are more suited.

I will be starting from scratch and have a few years on you but I'm Tryinn to stop putting myself under pressure with regards to age and where I should be in my life - or where society says I should be :) don't stress about the age.

    Best of luck.
