Just sitting down to watch this now. Not sure what to expect, really, as RTE is pretty hit and miss when it comes to these types of things....

Probably be the usual non-controversial brochure.

The auction is astonishing. A nod of the head for millions of euro.

btw, did anyone see that Niamh Horan of the Sunday Indo with the Coolmore boys at Goffs?

By controlling the most potent blood you there by control the world. Because you have say so over who should have access to it and who should be excluded from taping into it.

    Is this worth a watch?

Forgot all about it, but could catch it on the +1 in 25 minutes. Or I could go to bed.

    Should I stay up?

Recording this so I could watch the Liverpool game.

Just sneaking a quick look during the ads. Is it all about AO'B ?

He was featured for a few mins along and so was Oxx.

Strange to see no mention of Jim Bolger

I like Aidan O'Brien a lot, but I can't take him seriously any more when he almost perennially hails his current horse as the best he's ever had. He said more or less the same thing about Camelot a few years ago and he had his limitations well and truly exposed. Australia is an exceptional horse, but does anybody really take Aidan seriously anymore he makes such pronouncements?

You have to take that with a grain of salt and the people who ask him those questions to stop it. It's like asking an Arab Royal family member which is his favorite oil well

Sadly, I didn't think it amount to what it could have been and might have been better served over a couple of programmes or a small series. I felt it tried to do a catch all of flat racing and flat breeding and couldn't in the time provided.

It mentioned Equinome and showed Bolger's gallops (i think) but no mention of his work in this groundbreaking project which was a bit of an oversight in fairness. Also gave NH a bare mention where the majority of the country's breeders would aim their produce at that market.

It reminded me of the Channel 4 documentary they showed about 12-18 months ago about the make up of a thoroughbred. It seemed that it covered a lot of the same material by going to Coolmore (C4 at least showed a mating in progress) and the dissection of a horse.

The bits of Ballydoyle's gallops were interesting but why programmes show gallops and not put up the name of the horses involved is beyond me. A bit of context as to whether the horse is a 2/3/4/ year old or sprinter/miler/middle distance would better inform the viewer.

In fairness to the programme makers, they were catering for the general viewing public. If it became too technical or esoteric, I could see the casual viewer switching off.

Bolger is groundbreaking and I'm amazed that none of the big owner/breeders don't send him horses.the most questionable move he has made in the past 5 years was letting Godolphin in on Dawn Approach. Had he stayed sole voice for that horse it would have gone undefeated.

Bolger is a pragmatist. He's made a fair few bob out of Godolphin's involvement in his operation. I doubt he'll be complaining too much.

I'm sure he did. But Had he stood DA as a stud he would have made a killing.

Sorry, I meant it would be have been interesting to know the name of the horses to see the different speed and/or training a sprinter/miler/middle distance horse does. I wasn't interested in that from a betting angle.

I believe they still follow the VOB training philosophy. Which puts a strong emphasis on speed no matter the horse.

I thought it was the best program of this sort that I have seen. They didn't Dumb it down too much. Not many people would be interested in watching more than a few minutes about Equinome. As it is Equinome has not made a huge difference it just has potential to do so.Fascinating the way Chiquita was sold. The Qataris probably would have kept going if they realised the Doyles where bidding for Coolmore. Shrewd move.
