Just tuned in hoping to hear the news - not on - full coverage of Albert Reynolds funeral (inc mass). Have nothing against the guy but RTE is taking the p*ss here. On a positive note at least liveline isn't on today as as a result.

Is Joe not doing a live show from the tomb?

This funeral should be on 252 and digital only imo

News cancelled, it's disgraceful. There are enough outlets, internet, longwave even where they could put this funeral mass for those who want to listen.

Come on guys, we can have the news any day; we only get to bury Albert once (probably).

Listener ratings over in Newstalk Lunchtime probably doubled today. Luckily Jonathon Healy wasn't on air to launch one of his anti enjoyment tirades.

Saw a bit of the funeral on the telly. Paddy Cole was there, so thats Joe sorted for tomorrow's show.

    This is a once-in-a-not-very-often occasion.

Equally, there are enough outlets, internet, longwave, other stations, telly, etc etc etc where you could get the news.

Agreed, it's a State funeral. If you don't want to watch, go elsewhere for the news feed. No point in hanging around just for the sake of being offended.

For those who are missing their daily fix of the News at One, don't despair, its simply being delayed to accommodate the funeral and will be on in a minute.

Its not canceled. No need to panic.

And no need for this either. Have a bit of respect.

The amount of petty rage running through this thread is pathetic.

Am I the only person who loves a good state funeral? To hell with the News at One.

Nope, I love one too. Ever since I saw Dev's as a child I always thought they were a bit special. Give me a state funeral over a royal wedding any day!

It's Management of Resources. It's a state funeral and needs to be broadcast Nationally. At the same Time you have Four FM wavebands that could transmit the Funeral and they put it on the one that actually has listeners. Normal Programmes should have continued on RTE Radio 1 and the Funeral should have been available for those who wanted to listen to it on 2FM or Lyric FM. It would probably have led to an increase of listenership on Lyric and no real change on 2FM!!!
