I was unfortunately stuck watching fair city tonight and I thought to myself is this the best our country has to offer. The majority of them are horrific actors too be honest. I myself am a stage actor and the people I work with are ten times more realistic. I sometimes think do they pick these people of the street?

The greatest trick Bella Doyle ever played was convincing everyone he didn't exist.

Fairly Sh1tty, Constipation Street and Eastbenders, all a load of horsecock.

Fairly Sh1tty is probably the worst though.

It's a bit like marmite, or coldplay. You either love it or hate it but you can't argue its success.

No Glenroe or Father Ted were the best :D

Is there anything to be said for derailing another AH thread onto the subject of father Ted?

I had to endure it too tonight. Script Dialogue and storylines in Fair City are pathetic. One decent episode per week like in the ealy days would get better results. Saw an early episode recently and the difference in acting and dialogue is unbelievable.

Bracken was where it was at.

I firmly believe hundreds of thousands of us wouldn't be here but for the fact that Pat Barry's brooding left women with no option but to shag the nearest man at her earliest convenience.

There were no rampant rabbits back then you'll know and so in a way, isn't Gabriel Byrne everybody's daddy.

A very capable stage actress from my home town appeared in it a few years ago and she was sh**e. This was a lady who was highly respected in stage here and abroad.

It's either the script or the dumb, improbable storylines but something there makes dopes out of capable actors.

The majority are probably terrible though.

It's a soap. They're supposed to be shite. I don't think Fair City is much worse, or more stupid, than any of the others.

I honestly feel like they're not allowed to hire good actors. If you're able to act, you're not allowed work on Fair City. And if you have any experience or acting training, you're told to forget everything you've learned before you start. The quality of the show leaves me dumbfounded.

But lots of sh*te things are popular and addictive, like the food in McDonalds.

I can't sit through it myself, though.

I say a lot of it is down to the terrible script. There is no excitement in it, the whole episode of could be filmed in the little shop and people going on about their daily lives

The fella that plays Leo was picked because he has hands the size of dustbin lids.

The character of Bella could have been played by a toilet duck without losing any credibility.

Did you hear they hardly get paid, like your man Leo is a taxi driver in his spare time.

Are they not middle class actors putting on northside accents?

Well you have to have a Dub accent anyway so that rules me out

You do know what acting is. You don't have to be from Dublin to play a dub.

And then they made him stick them in his pockets to keep them quiet. Yes Leo's hands have a mind of their own.
