Me and boyfriend were away for afew days and were dismayed at the amount of very young children running around the bar until 1 in the morning - the parents were well on and some kids were crying with the tiredness but their cries went ignored. So whats the general opinion of kids in bars?

Lot of bars don't allow them after 7pm, they certainly should not be on licensed premises after 9pm.

Don't kids have to be gone from a bar by a certain time?

As long as they pay for their own drink and aren't paralytic, what's the harm?

Nothing beat being in the pub as a kid, glass bottle of mineral, bag of cheese and onion tayto, and being handed pounds and fivers by random drunks.

(and my dad a pioneer too)

I seen a notice in a pub saying 'Unattended children will be given an espresso and a puppy'!

I've only really seen kids in bars late at night at a function such as a birthday party or a wedding. It's very unfair on the kids imo. And I think by law they are not supposed to be on a licensed premises after 7pm.

That was the highlight of a day gathering spuds, Football Special in a long glass, bag of Scampi Fries and a game of pool.

No Playstations or summercamps in those days.

I've probably told this story before, but I was in a bar with lads at about 10 at night and there were kids beside us. We were talking about the usual lad stuff, like sex and all that, and the dirty looks we were getting off the mother beside us was unreal. The place was pact so her and her 3 kids and her friend couldn't move, so she actually expected us to censor ourselves. As if that happened.

They shouldn't be there at all. Pubs are boring for kids and inappropriate, yet I see them in them more often than you'd think -mostly in more rural areas, but still, the point still stands.

They are full of excuses when you get in a round with them
"Wahh - that will be all my pocket gone"
"Wahh - the bar man won't let me get you a Double Vodka"

It's harmless enough if it's very rare and only for an hour or two. Anything longer than that is pretty selfish behaviour, I think - especially if the parents are getting drunk. When you have kids, you really have to accept that enjoying yourself is no longer your main priority in life.

If I ever have kids, they won't see the inside of a pub until they're old enough (or at least look old enough) to go by themselves.

Why not just get a babysitter so you can go out and enjoy your night in peace, the kids won't be bored and those of us in the bar won't be annoyed at their whinging?

    Everybody wins!

    From http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/justice/criminal_law/criminal_offences/alcohol_and_the_law.html
Children (anyone under the age of 18) are only allowed in licensed premises if they are with a parent or guardian, but this provision carries certain restrictions. For example if accompanied by a parent/guardian, the child may remain on the premises between the hours of 10:30am - 9pm (10pm May to September) (unless the licence holder feels this is injurious to the child's health, safety and welfare). Children aged between 15-17 years may remain on the premises after 9pm where they are attending a private function at which a substantial meal is served. All licensed premises must display a sign to this effect in a prominent place at all time and failure to do so can result in a fine.

When I was a young fella I craved late summer nights in the pub...the atmosphere was incredible, I loved going over to random adults starting conversations and the crisps always tasted better in the pub :pac:. I think once they're over the crying age let em in as late as they want, they'll rarely if ever do harm to anyone else in there.

I believe they're allowed until 9pm. In my opinion there's no excuse to keep a less than teenage kid in the pub after that.

I was a bad parent and brought my 9 year old to the pub last night around 9 or 9.30. We were out for a meal with my parents and they fancied a drink in my hubbies local which they had never been to before. Was prepared with the Nintendo ds and just stayed for the one - fèking soft drink as I was taxi for the night!
