I was told by career coach that 5% of jobs are found trough the digital channels. That to me sounds like very low number in 21st century.
So how did you find your job?

You forgot through a friend / family member, I.e. pull. 90% of them are that.

I was being made redundant from my last job so made some calls to companies who had dealt with us. One of them took me on without any hesitation. Jammy.

Online. Monster.ie, I think it was.

I got recommended. The new employer checked me out on linked in and contacted me through the site. 2 phone calls and I had a job offer. I played hardball on salary and got looked after. Great company to work for too.

The job before this one I was between jobs after being made redundant. I got a call from a company we had used as a vendor and the following Monday I started work.

It's been about 7 years since I've had to do a cv or a formal interview.

I would have thought that (unfortunately) a lot of people would have got jobs through "specialist" recruitment agencies

Applied online, got it through a feckless recruitment agency (aren't they all?).

I get it by applying for it.

My dad heard about a job opening, not advertised anywhere. He whacked off my cv without me knowing (he knew I was looking for a job) and I got a text the next day for an interview. Started work 10 mins after the interview :)

    I started it myself.

I was invited to apply for it, which is common in my area. I'd already applied for a related position in the same place.

There was an advert online, I saw it and went back to apply later on that day but the advert was gone (they got hundreds of applications) so I sent an email directly with my CV, got a interview and got the job, I'm still there 4 years later :)

Online... come to think of it, all the jobs I've had since coming to Ireland I found online.

Every job I have had since 2004 was applied for online. I think that 5% figure was based on stats from 1998!

    Recruitment agency.

    Applied directly to the company.

I don't like recruitment agencies at all. Got d1cked around once and opened my eyes on how they operate.

I think you give yourself a better chance rather than being at the mercy of those glorified sales folk.

I applied on a jobs website. Got a call for an interview, and got through that ok. Could've been better but it wasn't too bad, or the standard of other applicants was really low. :-)

I think, especially with permanent jobs, fitting in with the existing team is high on a potential employers priorities. Good teams produce results. Most departments I've worked in have been made up of people of similar age and dispositions. That's hardly coincidence.

Oh and I proofread my application OP !

Head hunted. Took them three attempts - it's not just women who can play hard to get!!

The truth is, the timing was wrong when the first two approaches were made.

I went online, found some job openings, modified my CV to match, applied. I think it was CareerBuilder.ie

In my experience lying on your CV is the way to go. Not sure why so many people don't.

Shouldn't nepotism be a option in the poll

    Sadly, this.

I'm still amazed at how many people I know, including my own family, who were handed their jobs on a silver platter. Really frustrating/depressing.

It's only a part-time job though, which I started in 2008 when things were still rosy in that industry. Doubt I'll be so lucky when I get a grown-up job!

I was flying to London from Dublin Airport. After parking in the airport car park I asked the shuttle bus driver if they needed any more drivers for the bus and he gave me the bosses number. I called up and got an interview at the airport on my way back from UK and started work a few days later driving the bus i travelled on that day.

Went for an interview with a company for an advertised position that I applied for. Didn't get the job but was told I only missed out by a whisker. Six weeks later got a call from them saying a sister company had a vacancy that I'd be perfect for and was it ok to forward my cv. Was offered the job shortly after, which paid 30% more than the original position I applied for and was much better in terms of experience and responsibility. Still there nearly four years later. Was very lucky really.

A mate of mine was working in a place, and told me to bring him in a cv and he would give it in. I dropped in the next day to the trade counter with a cv, and the MD happened to be there. He had a quick scan of the cv, recognised a few places I worked in, looked up and recognised me. Unbeknownst to myself, we had dealt with each other about 15 years previous. I started the next morning without even an interview, and I'm still there over 5 years now.

My mate got sacked about 2 years ago!:pac:

I know quite a few people in my industry who've got jobs through LinkedIn and I was hoping to avoid this route as I'm not a fan of social networking. Plus I'm a little uncomfortable about having my CV public.

Ended up getting a job in what I'm starting to consider the "old fashioned" way - applying through jobs websites with my CV.

I had seen a few jobs advertised in newspapers (brought to my attention by my parents) that I intended to apply for but I didn't get around to it because they'd slip my mind.

I wanted a job at a international retail chain and i applied online and in 4 of their local stores . I got 2 declines and then a week later got a interview and got job .

A week later after I got job I got another decline letter and another week again later got a call to come in for a interview in another store.

Don't get disheartened , just keep chucking them cvs in ever month or so.

I'm finishing in this company now after 2 and half years because I've been approached by company owners wife to come work for them . More money, more hours , no traveling anymore .

My advice is always work hard because you never know who is eyeing you up to head hunt you .
