Just wondering if anyone here has these irons?

I'm looking specifically at the 712 model as seen a 2nd hand set for good price locally.

Just looking for a few thoughts, opinions on these irons?

I'm using the 08 models with S300 shafts. I've hit the 710,712 and 714 and they all feel the same once you have the same shaft.

    They're a great club.
If you hit it out the bottom, heel, toe etc you will see a distance and accuracy loss, but at most 10-15yds. They don't rattle the hand of you on a mis hit either.

They have a lovely feel/sound when struck right and are quite easy to shape the ball if that's what your looking for.

Looks wise the blade is short enough with a thin top line although nothing like Nike VR pro's etc. At the end of the day they're a muscle with a bit of cavity but they have loads of forgiveness if you can strike anywhere near the middle of the face.

The only downside I could see is if your looking for distance, the lofts would be quite weak compared to most newer irons, but I'm sure if you were looking for distance you'd be looking at different style of irons.

Being forged they will mark aswell but they're not too bad.

Great thanks for such a detailed reply. Sound like a great club. Most online reviews are very positive but I just wanted to get a few opinions on here
Will probably give them a try

Mu pro shop has a set of demo Ap2's (also 913 woods) that seem to be part of some Titleist fitting deal, so Id assume some others also have them.

Was half thinking of trying them out, but afraid I might like them :)

If your looking for a muscle club, this is not the option. If you could try them out first before you make your decision. I looked at a lot of clubs & targeted shops that had the practise / flightscope availability. Clubs that I taught looked great, were disappointing when I hit some shots. My friend has the AP2s and I tried them out and liked them.
I bought the 712 combo. AP2s PW to 7 iron & AP1s 6iron to 4 iron. I got the Dynamic gold XP s300 shafts.(special order!! had to pay extra) I ended up getting them in Dublin, as the new models were in stock with seemly everyone else. I'm very happy with them. For me I think its all subjective like putters. Try before you buy would be my advise if it helps.
The best of luck with it.

If I was to change irons tomorrow I'd go with Titleist. Not sure if I'd go Ap1 or Ap2, but my Da got fitted for Ap1's and his game changed overnight.

I'm stupidly impressed with Titleist stuff, and especially their fitting services and the guys that operate them.

I'll probably replace my irons in the next two years, and have little doubt I'll be going Titleist.

I've had the 710s and have the 712s for the last three years. Lovely club. Shaft choice is important as always. Tbh, with amateur golfers the club is almost never the reason for bad shots and the flight will be determined more by shaft characteristics! These are quality clubs and should do you for years.

Was your mouth out. It's always the clubs!

Back on topic. I've lusted after a set of AP2's for many years. I just can't bring myself to pay the premium for them as they hold their resale so well. That and my current irons are performing well.

I bought the AP2s a few years back and really like them. Great feel when you make a good connection. Went to a shop to try out different types of irons & remember at the time I felt like I probably hit the Nike vr combo irons better. But my heart was set on the titleist ones before I went in. So I went with the AP2s primarily for their looks & cool factor while ignoring the results of my test runs. Not a good rational reason but I like pulling them out of the bag & like the way the look when addressing the ball. So I think that confidence factor they give is definitely worth something

Great irons. Had 2 sets. Wouldnt change from my 714 cb's now as i get a much better flight out of them with less spin.. Feel wise u wont find much better to be honest and easy to launch

Are you thinking of getting rid of those illegal GI irons?

Some days I feel , look and play and score like a 20 handicap player. 1 in 20 days I dream. :D

Some of us are in the high stuff with GI irons and screaming , at least we are looking at the players with blades and dreaming. :p

Hard say really as depends on ur iron play. But if you are somewhat confident in iron striking id say anything from 12 down to skilled amateur/pro. If u struggle with irons and its a weakness in your game maybe look at 4/5/6 in ap1 and 7-pw in ap2. Long irons in ap1 are stupid easy to flush

Played with them (AP2) as a rental set a few weeks ago and loved them. Great feel and really looked nice and thin looking down on them.

Decided to get a fitting with them, ended up prefering them with the KBS Tour stiff shaft and 2 degrees flat.

Before i buy has anyone seen them around for less than €799 (4 to PW) ?

Seem to the same price pretty much everywhere as have been looking as well. You could try Halppenny and haggle on the price.

I have the 712 AP2s, 3 - PW. I got fitted in Carton for them. I really like them. Not hugely forgiving so I think irons would need to be your strength if you're above 10 or 12 handicap, otherwise they should be fine for all.

www.3balls.com are doing nearly new AP2 for $750.

Could be a good deal if decent shipping costs.

I bought my TM burners off them earlier this year and got caught by customs. They regrip all clubs with their own crap grips too.

True, getting stuff from the States there is always the Customs risk. I find that if you ask for USPS (post) it is normally fine.
