How do you construct a shallow well? I've a good source close to the shed and an idea of what I'm going to do but I'd like to get ideas/ opinions....

I remember our old buddy Reilig posting about this before. I searched for it but no luck. I think he dug out deep hole with digger, put concrete pipes stacked up on each other and filled in drainage type stones outside.
Keep safety in mind too with possible cave ins, kids falling in etc.

Need to do something similar in out farm.
There is a stream that starts way up the mountain.
We have a little pump on it to get water to troughs but not really deep enough. We have feed pipe just sitting under outlet

Dig down with a digger and put in well liners. Four foot ones and put drainage stone all around them and them and drop in your pipe and foot valve. you might need to hire a hole saw to put pipe in trough side of the liner. Works ok if its a good spring.

We put in two wells at home, albeit years ago this way. They always worked away fine. The pipes were big enough, maybe 4 or 5 feet?
Proper covers would be the thing. We made covers out of concrete at the time, but I assume you can get covers now for the pipes.

I have one of these in the back of my mind also

stream is 45meters away from sheds. Great flow in winter, last summer even had a steady flow

Have the 2inch ducting already in ground close on 18months when I was putting in drainage. hope to run power out and water back in the 2inch esb ducting. Next is to dig the hole and line but need a bigger machine than my 3t hydraulic spoon

Yeah I must do a search as well for what rellig did. I think I'll call it rellig's well :) Before dropping in the pipes would it be a good idea to have a layer (6") of drainage stone in the bottom of the hole?

Track machine arriving tomorrow and I know the driver has put one in in his own place so will quiz him about it.

You'd need to put a few inches of finer gravel in the pipe itself to clean the water

i'd throw in a layer of 6" first and then level off the bottom with pea gravel or say 1" clean chips, this will make it easier to put the pipe in on

Done one about ten years back and it's supplying three houses and the farm. A good deep hole (as far as the digger would go) then in with 3" in the base dropped liner on top of liner and back filled as we went with more three inch. Never went dry and there's heaps of ones coming out filling their water here. Put the pump right beside the well and insulate the ****e out of it.

After gravel at ground level seal top with soil to stop surface water getting in
