I have a genuine Win 8 Pro key and a genuine Win 8.1 Pro media ISO. Can the 8.1 media ISO be used to install using the Win 8 Key & will it activate?

Probably not but you can use a Microsoft Download Tool that prompts for your current license key and will download the appropiate ISO and copy to a USB / DVD.
