Okay, so I didn't pay a great deal of attention during chemistry at school so who can tell me how artificial fertiliser is made?
I mean what chemical reactions and what raw materials are used to produce the N,P, K etc?
Obviously you can't go out and buy a lorry load of nitrogen and potash and potassium and mix them together and pellet it so whats the process.

I'm expecting a detailed answer from brown podzol!!;)

N is taken from the air afaik in some chemical process.
P&K are mined by the countries lucky enough to have them. For us mainly Russia :( and Eastern Europe.

The only product manufactured around here resembling fertiliser is bull****.:D

Don't know anything about chemistry as I didn't even go to school, just met the students coming home, but I thought n would be a lot cheaper now as a lot of manufacturing capacity was put in place over the last 5 or 6 years to utilise gas that was being flared off during oil extraction.
