    hi guys,

    I have big problem, my 1 Gbps card (Realtek RTL8168D/8111D Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20)) is working as 100 Mb/s on Windows 7 x64. Because of that my UPC broadband speed is only 80 - 85Mbit.

    I was trying to reinstall drivers, force it to go 1Gbit, remove power and wait to recycle network settings but nothing works.

    Anyone knows how to resolve this?

    PS. oh and cable is fine as I have connected my laptop to it and it was working fine. 1Gbit and broadband on full speed.

    PS. it is desktop PC connected directly to UPC box...

    View the Realtek in Device Manager > Realtek Card > Properties > Advanced and try force the card to 1 Gbps Full Duplex (under the Speed & Duplex option).

    OP, what router (UPC box) do you have?

    He says he's already tried that.

    Did the card come with the PC or was it purchased as an add on? I suspect the hardware could potentially be faulty and if still under warranty have it replaced.

    the physical bit of it could be stuck in a weird state

    ( them cosmic rayz y'know)

    go into the BIOS and disable Wake-On-LAN ( might be just WOL )

    power it down and unplug it and leave it alone for a while so the caps discharge

    power it up and see

    if that doesn't work next try the driver

    why leave it alone for a while? pull the power cord from back of rig and press the power button for 5 seconds. this fully discharges the computer

    @advertsfox yes, I have tried that

    @murphaph yes same port.

    @Alun I have Cisco 3925

    @gctest50 and @dazdrog I have read about it before. I didn't know I need to unplug cable as well. I will try that and check bios as well. Will update after.

    Thanks to all.

    id also boot off a ubuntu cd, rule out a software/os issue.
    If speed is right on ubuntu, least you know its driver related, if its same in ubuntu, card is the fault.

    Odd, I had that exact same Realtek adapter on my last motherboard, also Win 7 x64 and also the exact same router, and it worked fine at 1Gb/s.

    Are you using the MS supplied standard driver for it, one from your PC/motherboard manufacturer, or from another source? There's a well known site for Realtek drivers which I used here ...

    I finally found out what was wrong it was cable. I have connected my laptop again and it showed 10Mbps and I was what?!? so I have moved cable a bit and it jumped to 100Mbit.

    I guess that during me moving to new house one of the plugs was damaged/loose or something.

    I will exchage it to new one and it should be back to 1Gbit. I will update.

    Thanks all for tips it was easier for me to start troubleshooting following your advices.
