    Hi,

I have been with my current employer for a little over 6 months, i am needing to terminate the contract asap due to a change in circumstance (family tragedy). I have a 6 month notice period on my behalf and am not sure what can happen if I am unable to fulfil this. It should be noted that my company has not signed off on my 6 month probation period as of yet.

    Thank-you

You've a SIX MONTH notice period?

Are you sure? I've heard of up to three months, but six months is seriously restrictive.

Have you checked your contract and are you sure of this? Do you work in an incredibly specialised area?

That aside, if it's a family tragedy that means you need to leave, can you talk to your work and see if you can get e.g. extended compassionate leave?

Yes it is 6 months and yes very specialised and am needing to relocate back to my home country, New Zealand.

    Thanks

Talk to your manager/HR about your circumstances.

The fact you are still on probation may be in your favour, does your contract specify if there is a different notice period during your probation?

Thanks, I was intending on talking with them, I'm confident they will understand but was just a bit worried if things turned sour. Also I am unsure wether I am still on probation as it has only been informally discussed but I have not signed off on this as of yet and am hoping this may work in my favour.

    Appreciate your help...Thanks
