I've converted a PDF form to Word to complete a form using an internet source. However, the formatting transferring over is now messed up so I can't fill out the form correctly. Any way to fix this?

    Would really appreciate some advice.

This will happen most of the time due to formatting being lost. If it is a form you need to fill out option one is print it, write in it and scan it back or option 2 ask the sender for an editable copy of the form either by means of an editable pdf or else a Word document.
If it is an editable pdf you may need to use Adobe Reader as other readers like foxit and the likes may not support form editing

You don't have to use Word to edit bits of text into it. Acrobat can do it as can Foxit (and Preview on OSX).
