Hey guys, my learner permit arrived in the post the other day so im hoping to get insured to be able to practice on the road. I'm looking to get insured on my mother's car who is with aviva but was told it would be an extra 800? Do I have to get insured with aviva as that's who she's with or can i go with someone else? Thanks

You have to be insured on your mother'a policy as, I presume, she's the registered keeper

The other alternative is to ring around and get fresh quotes for you and your mother on her car. You might find something a lot cheaper.

You can go with who you want - however not all insurers will cover Learners. Try Axa and TheAA - but be prepared for one hell of a premium

PS: First Ireland are usually good for prices. Worth a try.

I assume there is nobody offering separate learner policies like they do in the UK....for example.....

If so it is a pity, but yet another thing our market does not provide.

Similar situation myself and the AA wouldn't provide me with a quote and AXA was prohibitively expensive.

Try AIG, so far I have found them the most competitive.
