Car Battery

Hey guys, I have a 2006 Punto which has never given me any problems since I got it in late 2010. A few nights ago I took my usual drive about 7 miles and back and locked up the car in the drive as normal. Nothing left on. Next morning car wouldn't start. Tried jumping it but nothing. The clock was still working etc so the battery was still somewhat charged but by that afternoon it was completely gone. Tried this morning again with a different car to jump it and it started up, perfect, drove around for a bit and parked up again. Went out to check it there and it's gone again. Any idea what this could be?

First off would be to get the battery tested. Any motor factors should be able to do this if you don't have a tester yourself.

Thanks for the reply. I'm hopefully going to get it into someone in the morning to check it as I don't have any way of checking it myself.

What Bazz said....plus an Auto-Electrician will definitely have the Load Meter required to do a proper test on the Battery.
Better to change it now rather than wait a few months, as when the nights get cooler a Battery on the way out will lose it's charge far quicker.

By the way, did you notice any problems with the electric power steering in the last couple of weeks ?
This usually trips out if the Battery is even starting to go downhill.

Car batteries are only good really, for 4 to 5 years. As mentioned above, it will only get worse with colder mornings.

Thanks again for the replies. Just back from getting the battery tested. Even though the car was starting while in there the test showed it as dead. It's slowly draining so would have just died again so got a new one.
I also didn't notice any change in the power steering other than it feeling lighter when the petrol was topped up which I can only assume isn't a problem :) thanks for all the replies :)
