BTEA Rate

Does the BTEA rate stay the same for the full 4 year course, regardless of increase (or decrease) in means of self or spouse throughout the academic year?

    1. Say wife claiming for husband as qualified adult, husband then goes on BTEA as a result. Wife then gets a €100k job 4 months down the line. Does the husband retain the BTEA at full rate?

    2. Alternatively, husband is working, wife is claiming jobseekers (reduced rate because of husbands income - say €70). She then goes on to BTEA, keeping the €70 a week.

    2. (a) If husband loses the job, he can only claim for himself I believe (€188), not her, as she is getting a Department of Social Protection payment herself (€70).

Would her payment not go up to reflect the fact that were she not on BTEA, the husband would get €124.80 for her? The family would be down €54.80 a week.

    2. (b) Husband does not lose his job. Instead he gets a payrise. Were his wife still on Jobseekers (€70), her payment would be reduced to nil.

But she is on BTEA of €70.

Will this BTEA be reduced to take account of the husbands increased earnings or does the rate stay the same for the duration of the course regardless of changes in means (up or down)?

Mods - I posted this in student finances aswell, but I trust it is ok to post here.

There are some intelligent persons generous with their time and advice who frequent the State Benefits forum (not sure if they are on Student Finances forum)

    Any help appreciated!
