Well won 2 & 1 in the semi's but lost 4 & 3 in the final, still very happy with the run we got. Had a bit of a melt down for a few holes which cost it

well done. how are the legs this morning? what way were the handicaps in final?

Semis and finals were very tuff because we played them over 15 holes due to flog delays , but the players still kept their handicaps, so that ment our opponents had 9 and 8 shots over 15holes , as a opposed to 8 & 9 shots over 18 holes. Same in the semis

Myself and my partner were 8 and 6 handicap on the day we were the only single figure golfers left in the comp as well

Wow, that's so wrong, clearly should have been 15/18. This competition seems to have a shambles rules wise all the way through.

Manages to make GUI comps look fair!

What was the story with caddies and measuring devices in the end? Were caddies compulsory in both singles and fourball matchplay events?

What ever about the players very hard to get a caddy to give up their entire weekend to walk around a golf course. Then heard caddies weren't provided for and had to buy their own lunch which at €8.50 for a soup and sandwich was a bit of a rip off.

We had lunch provided Saturday and sunday, the caddies were only compulsory for the final because thats when they had to wear caddie bibs with the advertising on it

First viewing of this was supposed to be on this evening on Setanta Ireland at 21:00, anyone know why it's no longer on the TV listings and when it's to rescheduled?

Checked the listings on Tues and it showed it for tonight, nothing there for tomorrow either. Setanta's website is pretty brutal though in terms of future listings so hard to tell.

Saw a listing for it earlier for four showings. Two programs and two repeats.

But it looks like the first is on Sunday at 17:30 with a repeat Monday at 5am.

The Setanta website is brutal when searching for anything.

Tom Muldoon hits the camera from the bunker.... That guy gets more TV coverage than Lowry or Harrington.

    Must be a serious competitor.

The programme thus far is nothing short of shockingly poor, terrible commentary and the camera work is all over the place flicking from shots and players with a mix of both singles and four balls.

Watched it there - poor coverage , done on cheap.

But was entertaining to see Irish Amateurs play on tv. Very unique styles , and characters.

Glad I'm not as bad at putting as I was thinking I was - joking , the camera and pressure seemed to be unreal.

Seemed a good event - Would have loved if handicaps and name of player was at bottom of screen for each shot - poor Gary Murphy seemed to be having to say and do everything (lol) - I'm sure he wishes he was back on tour now.

Good laugh , obviously not as polished as Tribly - but you'd imagine it will grow.

By The Way - just noticed Tones is gone.

I know he didn't post much , but was a character and the best improved golfer around here.

Pity - but that is the world we live in.

Could also hit the ball a bleeding mile.

Terrible coverage, I suppose give it a few years to get newer cameras in there. Shot Tracker, all that fancy stuff.

Very hard to keep up with though. I was hoping for 3 or 4 programmes so I could give them as a box set for Christmas ;) or at least 1 for Singles and 1 for the team event.

Must be hard to comment on yer own. They should have copied the trilby tour format. But it seemed to be a highlights package of low lights.

Wonder if it was "handicap gate" that sent him packing?

No as a lad around here said to me . You need the characters.

Golf is full of bores. Who are happy floating around at a certain handicaps. It is also full of idiots thinking the tour is next. With the gear and routines.

    Best of Luck Tones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭pissedasanewt

In fairness, he didn't realise and it wasn't very clear on the website. You could go down 2 shots and your opponent 3. Yet you get to stay at your handicap and they drop. Its changed now though on the website. You play off the lower handicap.

I'd like to see how they advertise the Matchplay next year, I saw this during the year...
    digital.golfingweekly.ie/i/212580/24

They would have to change it to from ....
"Great prizes are available to winners at county level and the Grand final will have big tournament feel to it with more prizes on offer.”

    It should read,
“No prizes are available to winners at county level and the Grand final will have big tournament feel to it with no prizes on offer”.

Actually I was thinking about this.

My last 2 rounds, with the ESR, would have got me from 18 to single figures. Does that make me a legend or insecure/self obsessed/attention seeking/cheatbandit/<insert whatever> if I come on a here mouthing about it?

Is it really an achievement playing off an artificially high handicap and getting cut?

Good question Buster - well done on your golf.

will have to think about that one.

they did copy the trilby tour. read both websites matchplay FAQS. 'courtesy of the course' is the best one i ever heard. i enjoyed my two rounds in carton. we were low handicaps and i knew we hadn't a hope. change of finals venue for next year. wonder where it will go to??

    Depends
    1) if you've just taken up golf and its a natural progression downward - then well done, keep it up.
    2) Just got new fitted clubs or golf lessons instead of hacking about - again, good stuff.
    3) You just say you've been playing off 18 for society purposes, but now your handicap it officially tracked you are actually off 8. Then your a %*$%(^ bandit and you should be playing Golf Digest events.
