I know a lot of lads here might do there own tractor maintenance, but what would lads expect to pay for labour only if they were to bring it to there own local dealer.

I got an invoice for 280 (incl VAT) for labour ONLY, to do your standard service i.e. oil filter, fuel filter. hydraulic filter, change oils, grease and replace a bulb (and I had it greased myself)

    Is this price excessive

Seems a lot of money to me for that kind of work. But you said it's a main dealer so they can charge what they like.

Any particular reason you brought it to a main dealer? I'd be thinking a good local diesel mechanic would have it done for around the ton (€100) if you had all the bits got.

I suppose I don't really see him as a main dealer, as I went to school with him and its where the tractor was bought originally. Id be thinking 150 would be plenty as u said for that kind of work. Its getting to a stage where every penny handed over has to be scrutinised. I may have to look else where

What make and model is it? I think you got a great deal especially if he changed all the oils? Drum of oil alone anywhere 70euro n up.

Contractor has 78 john deere 550 euro for all filters and oil. He does them himself.
Garage would prob charge at least 75 euro an hour for labour Id say. Make up a few jobs aswell.

Would you not buy the oil and filters and do it yourself? I thought you'd enjoy that kind of work :p
